Provided is a hydrogen generation device including: a reformer (102) which generates a hydrogen-containing gas by a reformation reaction using a raw material; a combustion device (104) for heating the reformer; an air supply device (106) which supplies air for combustion to the combustion device; a first heat exchanger (108) which collects heat from the combustion exhaust gas exhausted from the combustion device; a first heat medium path (110) through which a first heat medium flows to receive the heat collected from the combustion exhaust gas in the first heat exchanger; a first pump (112) for causing the first medium to flow in the first heat medium path; a heat accumulator (140) which accumulates the heat collected by the first heat medium; and a controller (114) which supplies air from the air supply device to the combustion device which is not executing combustion during a stop process and operates the first pump in a cooling step for cooling at least the reformer.
