    • A fastener puller for pulling screws (38) and the like from a deck (39) or other workpiece that includes a base (10) having a planar base portion (11B, 11C) joined to an inclined base portion (14) to provide a fulcrum about which the base pivots to move the planar base portion parallel to the adjacent part of the deck as the claw (30), while extending between the insulation hold down plate (35) and the insulation (37) on the deck, is initially moved perpendicularly to the planar base portion by a piston cylinder combination (20, 21). The screw, in being removed, is moved perpendicularly to the part of the deck in which it is extended. The combination reciprocates a slider (24) along the slide mount (17B). The claw is mounted to the slider while the slide mount is mounted to the base to extend perpendicular to the planar base portion whereby the claw is moved to minimize the enlargement of the hole in the deck as the screw is separated from the deck.

    • Apparatus (10) for recovering fumes from a roofing kettle (12) includes a fan (72) for drawing air from the hollow interior of a housing (20). A conduit (34) extends through the housing front wall (22) and terminates in the hollow interior. A burner assembly (44) is disposed within the conduit (34) for providing a flame within the conduit (34). The housing side wall (30) includes a fresh air intake (78). A flexible metal hose (80) extends between the outer free end of the conduit (34) and the roofing kettle (12). Rotation of the fan (72) causes air to be drawn from the interior of the housing (20) and in turn through the fresh air intake (78), through the conduit (34) and the hose (80) from the interior of the kettle (12), and through the duct (46) and tube (58) of the burner assembly (44). Fumes are thereby drawn from the kettle (12) through the conduit (34) and are burned or otherwise consumed in the conduit (34) so that the emissions from the outlet (76) of the fan (72) are clear and generally free of odor.

    • Roofing kettle apparatus for heating asphalt includes a wheeled chassis mounting a vat and a heating system for heating the vat. The heating system includes a solenoid operated valve for controlling the flow of fuel gas from a fuel gas source to each of a pair of burner nozzles and a igniter assembly having an outlet adjacent the outlet of a first combustion chamber. An igniter generates a spark to ignite gas discharging from the igniter assembly outlet. A flame sensor adjacent to the first combustion chamber outlet end senses the burning of fuel gas. The igniter assembly has a second outlet adjacent the second combustion chamber outlet end. The ignition of fuel gas discharging from the igniter assembly ignites the gas discharging through the combustion chamber outlets. The burners extend into the combustion chambers. Electric controls include circuitry in the igniter and a temperature controller to energize and deenergize the valve and generate a spark a number of times with a time delay between each energization and deenergization to purge gas in the combustion chambers in the event the flame sensor does not sense a flame after the respective energization and to control the range of temperatures to which the material in the vat is heated.
