摘要： A high frequency cathode heater supply for a microwave source includes a SMPS inverter (13) and an isolation transformer (12) having a primary winding (122) arranged to be powered by the SMPS inverter, a monitor winding (123) passing through primary core assemblies of the primary winding and a secondary winding (121) arranged for connection to the cathode heater (11). A current monitor (141) is arranged to monitor a current in the primary windings. Signal processing modules (14, 131, 132) are arranged to receive a first input signal from the monitor winding (123) indicative of a voltage Vh across the cathode heater (11) and a second input signal from the current monitor (141) indicative of a current through the cathode heater. The signal processing modules are arranged to output a control signal to the SMPS inverter to control power supplied to the cathode heater dependent on a monitored resistance of,or monitored power supplied to, the cathode heater as determined from the first input signal and the second input signal.

摘要： An electrode assembly (30, 32) for a discharge lamp (20), particularly a ceramic metal halide (CMH) lamp having a ceramic body (22), with a discharge chamber (24) and at least one leg (26, 28) having an opening therethrough. The electrode assembly is to be received at least in part in the body; it preferably includes a niobium mandrel (40), a molybdenum mandrel, and a molybdenum overwind (44) received over the mandrel. A tungsten portion (48, 50) is then joined to the molybdenum composite. Adjacent turns of the overwind are spaced by a gap to facilitate receipt of an associated seal material on the overwind and the molybdenum mandrel. The gap is approximately 10% to 50% of the dimension between adjacent turns of the overwind relative to a diameter of the overwind.

摘要： An electron emitter assembly for use in an x-ray emitting device or other electron emitter-containing device is disclosed. In one embodiment, an x-ray tube is disclosed, including a vacuum enclosure that houses both an anode having a target surface, and a cathode positioned with respect to the anode. The cathode includes an electron emitter assembly for emitting a beam of electrons during tube operation. The electron emitter assembly comprises a refractory metal foil with a plurality of shaped rung structures for emitting an electron beam that maximizes flux while simultaneously focusing the electron beam in two dimensions. Focusing occurs primarily through an electrical field shaped by the electron emitter assembly and through balancing current density, electrical resistance, and heat loss through thermal conduction to control the regions that emit electrons. Furthermore, the refractory metal foil can be configured with a modified work function for preferential electron emission.
