    • An apparatus for winding a tape medium comprises a hub (24) supported by a frame (22) for wrappingly receiving the tape medium (14). A drive (16) engages the hub and rotably drives it about a wind axis (W) whereby a length of the tape medium is wound to form a spool/like tape pack with a portion of the tape medium entering the tape pack at a tangential nip and with the tape pack having opposite first (62) and second (66) surfaces. A packing arm (43, 47) includes a proximal end portion (70, 72) at the hub and extends to a distal end portion (74, 76) at the circumference of the tape pack. The packing arm has a contact surface for contacting the first surface of the tape pack. A support member (42, 46) supports the packing arm in contact wiht the first surface of the tape pack. A tape reel assembly for mounting to and demounting from a tape drive apparatus is also provided.

    • A leader block in a read/write recording apparatus includes a body member and a latch member that move relative to each other to receive, engage and retain the leader pin on a tape medium. The leader block may include finger-like engagement structures. The catch piece can be biased toward a closed position and can include a ramp to facilitate initial engagement of the leader pin. The catch piece can include an actuator tab. A threading assembly is disclosed to incorporate the leader block and incudes an actuator that selective operates the catch piece via the actuator tab to permit disengagement of the leader pin therefrom. A cam assembly may control the actuator. This assembly is disclosed in conjunction with a threading assembly that includes a flexible conveyor member received in a guide track. A method utilizing this structure is described.

    • A magnetic tape recording and reproducing apparatus uses a cassette (2) having a pressure roller (4) near one corner with an aperture in one adjacent edge for a drive roller (12) to engage the tape (1) and an aperture in the other adjacent edge for the tape to engage a transducing head (10). The drive roller (12) and head (10) are fixed in position and a spring (14) presses the cassette (2) towards the drive roller (12), the pressure on the pressure roller (4) also serving to retain the cassette (2) and locate it in against fixed stops (22). The head (10) has projections (25, 26) for aligning the tape (1) and determining the position of the cassette (2). The head position is referenced to the casing by standing on a surface (11) of the casing and being held in place by resilient arms secured (31) to the casing. The head (10) is connected to a read-write circuit using a push-pull amplifier powered by two current sources. Any one of a plurality of such apparatus can be selected using a chain of D-type flip-flops (one per apparatus) and applying a number of clock pulses corresponding the apparatus to be selected.

When the video casette is inserted, a blocking mode is selected. When the blocking mode is selected, the inserted video cassette transfers to a blocking position by a drive of a loading motor. When the video cassette transfers to the blocking position, the drive of the loading motor stops and a blocking state is set. The insertion slot of the video cassette player is blocked by means of the cassette without adding other components. Consequently, since the components for locking the front door are redundant, and the number of components and fabrication steps of the video cassette player are reducible, the cost of production can be reduced.
