摘要： A method to control sea level rise comprises moving seawater from a sea (1) to an area of land. The seawater is desalinated before being placed in a natural depression (2) and pipelines are used to move the water. The water may be moved by gravity or pumped (4) and may be used to generate (3) electricity. Crops are also planted in an area near the natural depression (7) and irrigated by using the desalinated seawater that was pumped into this natural depression. In a specific embodiment the land used is the desert near the border of Libya and Egypt that contains the Qattara Depression (5).

摘要： A flood mitigation device comprising: a lower unit comprising: an inner channel extending along a longitudinal axis of the lower unit, configured to accommodate a fluid; and an outer inlet configured to facilitate fluid access from an external environment to the inner channel. The flood mitigation device also comprises an upper unit comprising an expandable cavity configured to accommodate the fluid; wherein the upper unit is contiguously secured to an upper portion of the lower unit, thereby forming a watertight seal; and wherein the inner channel is in fluid communication with the external environment and the expandable cavity. A rising fluid level proximate the inlet is arranged to be accommodated within the inner channel and the expandable cavity. The present invention advantageously provides a watertight structure which may be submerged, unsubmerged or partially submerged in the body of water in order to prevent a rising fluid level from causing environmental damage. This structure of the present invention advantageously provides a relatively cheap and unobtrusive solution for preventing floodwaters originating from bodies of water that may be high risk.

摘要： Flood barrier assemblies in land near a water frontage shoreline have next adjacent panels actively erectable into a continuous barrier preventing flooding of the land. In one configuration one lateral side of a panel is a contact surface and the other lateral side carries a gasket. The panels are sequentially raised with a first to raise panel presenting a contact surface to the gasket of the next adjacent second to raise panel. In another configuration, a contact surface is on opposing lateral sides of two panels separated by a next adjacent panel between them having gaskets on both its lateral sides. The spaced first panels raise before the second panel. The raised panels may be in a linear or curved array or a combination of linear and curved arrays. Either configuration and order of raising erects a flood barrier wall sealed panel to panel by the gasket between adjacent panels.
