    • A festooning apparatus (10) for drawing a continuous web material (1) from a source (5) and for depositing it on respective support base creating blocks (3) of web portions (2) transversally folded and zigzag stacked on one another (11,12). According to a first aspect of the invention, the festooning apparatus (30) comprises a drawing and depositing unit (40) that has a couple of conveying rollers (47,48), mounted to pinch and draw the web (1), and a couple of guide rollers (52,53) for depositing the web; the guide rollers are arranged downstream of the conveying rollers (47,48), and define a passageway (60) that allows establishing a sliding contact with the web; the guide rollers generally may have a linear speed larger than the conveying rollers. This allows to drastically reduce the traction forces, thus preventing distortion and breaking of the web. In particular, in case of a web material that is not capable of elastic deformation before breaking point; moreover, it is possible to avoid the use of a web transport band, making it possible to use a web material that has a sticky surface that has been treated with an adhesive and/or a web material that has an electrostatically charged surface. According to another aspect of the invention, two drawing and depositing unit (40) are provided that slide along guides (14) of a frame (13), and are aligned and symmetrically arranged with respect to each other; they constantly have positions and speed opposite to each other, such that drawing and depositing unit (40) transmits to the frame (13) inertial forces, which are caused by the reciprocating movement, that constantly balance each other. Accordingly, a lighter bearing structure of the apparatus is achieved, than in the case of prior art festooning apparatuses, vibrations are less likely to arise and the fixed and movable components of the apparatus are less subject to wear.
