    • A system for controlling the position of a vehicle seat is disclosed. The system includes in network communication, an input device, a detection system, at least one controller, and at least one controllable device. The detection system measures a current value of at least one of the recline, fore-aft, or swivel position of the seat. The input device communicates to the controllers a desired value for at least one of these seat positions. The controller compares the measured value to a limiting value and the desired value and calculates a movement factor value. The movement factor value determines the communication between the controller and the controllable device. If the movement factor value falls into a range where the seat can be moved to the desired value, the controller signals the at least one controllable device to control the adjustment of at least one of the recline position, the fore-aft position, or the swivel position to the desired value. However, if the movement factor value falls outside a range where the seat can be moved to the desired value, the controller signals the at least one controllable device to limit the adjustment of the at least one of the recline position, the fore-aft position, or the swivel of the position.

    • A linear seat recliner (10) for use in a motor vehicle having a seat with a seat back (14) pivotally connected to a seat bottom (16). The seat is operable in a plurality of use positions ranging from an upright position to a fully reclined position. The linear seat recliner (10) includes a housing (24) adapted to be coupled to one of the seat back (14) and the seat bottom (16), a latching mechanism (38) coupled to said housing (24), and a recliner rod (28). The recliner rod (28) includes a body having a first end (32) and a second end (34). The body has a substantially planar top flat (52) diametrically opposed and parallel to a substantially planar bottom flat (54). The top flat (52) includes a plurality of teeth (50) positioned at the first end (32) of the body. The first end of the recliner rod (28) is selectively engageable by the latching mechanism (38) and the second end (34) of the recliner rod (28) is adapted to be coupled to the other of the seat back (14) and the seat bottom (16).

Crush ribs (78) are formed in the throughbore of the ball swivel (52) for engaging the hinge pin (40)and establishing an interference fit therebetween.

    • The rotary adjustment mechanism adjusts the seat back of a vehicle seat. The mechanism includes a handle (40) mounted for rotation with respect to the seat. The handle has an internal gear (74), and the internal gear drives a pair of pinion gears (64, 66) positioned within the internal gear. Each gear rotates a flexible shaft (110, 112), and each shaft connects to a leadscrew (120, 122). The leadscrew has a threaded end, which mates with a threaded nut (124, 126) connected one seat pivot. Shaft rotation rotates the leadscrew, which causes the threaded nut to move axially, which in turn, pivots the respective seat pivot.
