    • The invention relates to a method for converting heat energy consisting in thermally converting a working medium in a heat engine comprising an isothermal device, a receiver, isochoric devices, a precombustion chamber, a heat exchange heat-insulated device and removable heat-insulation devices. The working medium transfer is carried out by piston devices which are disposed in adjacent cylinders and move in opposite phases. Said isothermal device supplies the working medium to the receiver, the working medium having a modified temperature is transported to the precombustion chamber, is heated, supplied to the second isochoric device through an adiabatic expansion and a compressed gas is converted into mechanical energy by cooling. In the third isochoric device and at the output thereof the working medium exchanges a thermal energy with the working medium in the first isochoric device. Said invention increases the efficiency and converts external thermal energy into mechanical energy.

    • An air bottoming powertrain, suitable for use in automobiles includes an internal combustion engine (18), a compressor (1) which receives gaseous working fluid and compresses it to an elevated pressure, a cooler (16) for operating the compressor isothermally, an expander (4) for deriving work from the compressed gas and a heat exchanger (3) located in the compressed gas line for indirect heat exchange between the compressed working fluid and exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine. The expander may have a cylindrical barrel with a plurality of cylinders arranged in a circle and open at one end face of the cylinder barrel, which end face is sealed closed by a valve plate. The cylinder barrel and valve plate allow relative rotation therebetween to drive an output shaft, driven by compressed gas from the compressor.
