    • An automatic board processing system (20) including a transverse board conveyor (28), a board extrusion portion (22), a marking station (31.1), a sawing portion (24), one or more board feeding portions (26) and a process controller (29). One or more stack of boards are supported for serially feeding each board conveyor and are conveyed in a direction transverse to the length of the boards. The boards are individually deposited into an elongate receiver (42) of a board extrusion portion to be conveyed longitudinally. A carriage (73) in the receiver transports the boards past an end detection station past a marking station and to a sawing station. The carriage has a moveable clamping member which pinches the board between a wall of the receiver and the clamping member. The carriage moves down the receiver with the board clamped thereto conveying the board in a longitudinal direction to position the board in a desired position for sawing the board. The sawing station is located at a proximal end of the receiver with proximity sensors (332), such as optical sensors comprising the end detection station also positioned at said end. A clamping station (31.3) comprising a pair of gripping rollers secure the proximal end of the board adjacent the saw station for sawing. The marking station, also positioned at said end, prints desired indicia at selected positions on the board such as by an ink jet printer (310) without physical contact of the printing mechanism with the board and while the board is moving. All operations of the board processing system are automated by the process controller.

    • Various embodiments of automated work piece positioning systems are provided. The system may include a guide rail assembly structured for connection to an item of work piece processing equipment. The guide rail assembly comprises an optical measurement pattern positioned thereon and one or more guide rails. The system also includes a carriage assembly structured for slidable engagement with the guide rail assembly. The carriage assembly includes: a controller configured for wireless data communication with at least one mobile computing device, a stop block, a braking and positioning mechanism configured for positioning the stop block in connection with a cutting operation to be performed on the work piece processing equipment. The carriage assembly also includes an optical detection system configured to interact with the optical measurement pattern positioned on the guide rail assembly to assist with positioning the stop block in a predetermined position on the guide rail assembly.
