    • A process and system for treating gaseous material is disclosed. The system includes a first container (12) which receives a cleaning liquid for cleaning the gaseous material. A first guide (14) directs an overflow of cleaning liquid from a first opening (16) to a second opening (18) forming a first liquid curtain (32). The system also includes a second container (20) beneath the first guide (14), and a second guide (22) in the second container. The second guide (22) defines a third and fourth opening (24, 26). A first liquid curtain former (30) is disposed between the second opening (18) and the third opening (24). The first liquid curtain former (30) redirects the first liquid curtain (32) to form a second liquid curtain (34) about the third opening (24). The second liquid curtain (34) extends between the first liquid curtain former (30) and the second container (20) where it accumulates and exits via a liquid outlet (28). The first guide (14) and the second guide (22) are operably configured to receive the gaseous material at the first opening (16) or the fourth opening (26) and to guide the gaseous material through the first and second liquid curtains (32, 34) to the other of the first and fourth openings (16, 26), such that the first and second liquid curtains (32, 34) entrain contaminants from the gaseous material in the cleaning liquid. The system may form part of a series configuration.
