    • A device (10) for preparing a liquid medicinal solution reconstituted from two components of which at least one is liquid, both components at first being stored in two respective separate sterilised hermetically sealed containers (15, 16). One of the components is an active substance and the other is the active or neutral diluent liquid component. The device comprises a central portion provided with a cannula (17), two container housings (13, 14) on either side of the central portion, and a channel having a first end opening for communication with the container (16) containing said active substance, and a second end opening for connection to a coupling for transferring said reconstituted liquid medicinal substance. The cannula (17) is arranged to establish communication between the two containers placed head-to-tail in the housings (13, 14), and coaxial with said containers, and comprises a first end projecting into the diluent container (15) substantially in the region of the outlet thereof, and a second end projecting into the active substance container (16) substantially in the central portion thereof. The volume of said container is selected to be more than twice the volume of the reconstituted liquid medicinal substance.

    • In the known methods for collecting and processing blood for a blood bank, at least one blood bag, which is packed sterilely in a package, is filled with blood and then transported in a transport container. The apparatus used for this comprises a sterile package for at least one blood bag, having a completely enclosed interior space to hold the blood bag and a closure element used to open up the interior space. To device on this basis a method that allows simple and sterile collection and processing of the blood for storage and to provide a suitable apparatus therefor, enabling the blood for storage to be handled with little expenditure of work and low risk of contamination, the invention proposes with respect to the method that the package be used as transport container and regarding the apparatus that the interior space has a volume of at least 500 ml or can be expanded to at least 500 ml by applying an internal pressure directed outwards from the interior space, and that the interior space can be closed by means of the closure element.

    • A reconstitution device (1) for coupling two containers, for example a vial (2) containing a drug and a flexible bag (3) containing a diluent, consisting of an enclosed two part housing (16, 17) within which is mounted a cannula (35) having two tips (37, 38). The device (1) is secured by a vial adaptor (20) to the vial (2) and by a bag adaptor (25) to the bag (3). After securing, the two parts of the housing (16, 17) are telescoped together causing the tips (37, 38) to pierce the vial (2) and bag (3) allowing communication between vial (2) and bag (3).     • The present invention provides a system and method for creating on site, remote from a sterile environment, parenteral solutions in large volume parenteral containers for intravenous administration to a patient. In an embodiment, this system comprises an empty large volume container (210) including at least one port (224) for accessing an interior (216) of the container (210). The port includes a sterilizing filter (228) for sterilizing a fluid fed through the port (224) into the container (210). A second container (250) is provided including a solute (252) and having means for coupling (254) the second container (250) to the large volume container (210) and thereby providing fluid communication therebetween allowing the solute (252) to be received within the interior (216) of the container (210). A sterile water source (230) is also provided including means (256) for placing the sterile water source (230) in fluid communication with the port (224) and allowing water to flow from the sterile water source (230) into the interior (216) of the container (210). This allows the solute (252) and sterile water that has been fed through the filter (228) to create a parenteral solution in the large volume parenteral container (210).
