    • Past pin joint assemblies attaching a lift arm to a construction machine have utilized grease lubricated pins. Deflection of the pins during operation caused damage to both the pin and surrounding structure. Additionally, the use of grease requires daily lubrication schedules. The present invention overcomes these and other problems by providing an oil sealed pin joint assembly (100) which virtually eliminates daily lubrication needs. A pin (156) is utilized with a variable profile (168) including first and second end portions (160, 164) which diverge inwardly from a first predetermined diameter (D1) and terminate at a second predetermined diameter (D2). The second diameter (D2) is in substantial axial alignment with a contact surface (172) of a first and second collar (104, 108) with first and second bearing assemblies (136, 140), respectively. The pin (156) diverges outwardly from the second diameter (D2) and terminates at a third predetermined diameter (D3). A plurality of radii (R1, R2, R3) blendingly interconnect the first, second and third diameters (D1, D2, D3). During operation, the pin (156) deflects and the relative location and size of the diameters and radii promote a uniform distribution of forces across the pin (156) and into the surrounding structure. Uniform distribution of pin forces cause less damage to the pin (156) and surrounding structure.

    • The invention relates to a ball-and-socket joint, preferably for a motor vehicle, wherein the ball (1) located on a pivot pin is movably received by a socket (3) that consists of a synthetic material. The socket is provided with lubricant-guiding recesses (5) on its inner surface that faces the ball and is received by a housing. According to the invention, the recesses may be grooves (5) in the shape of a structural unit with groove sections that extend at an angle to the center longitudinal axis of the ball-and-socket joint or they may be configured as microscopically small indentations. This new structural design results in a pump effect when the ball is moved across the groove sections. Said pump effect draws the lubricant that is present in the groove sections into the gap between the ball and the socket, thereby guaranteeing a lubrication of the ball-and-socket joint under all operating conditions that is superior over the state of the art.
