    • The purpose of the invention is to account the electric energy consumed, to protect from unaccounted consumption of electric energy ad from malfunctioning of the electricity supply circuit. The multifunctional electric energy meter consists of a single-phase or three-phase electric energy metering device, an automated switch, a voltage indicator, a current transformer processor, a remote two-way switching module with an antenna and a module for protection of unaccounted consumption of electric energy, which consist of a current voltage transformer with two primary windings and one secondary winding, the terminals of the latter are connected to the processor and to the bridge rectifier, connected in parallel to the electrolytic capacitor to which an electromechanical activator with a threshold control circuit is connected. The processor includes units for measuring the supplied voltage and current, the difference between the supplied and returned current, to calculate the power consumption and the electric energy consumption, to compare the measured and calculated data with their preset permitted values and to transfer them to the digital indicator and to the remote two-way switching module in order to receive the remote commands and to transfer the received and the formulated control commands.

    • This invention relates to meter reading systems and devices in particular to systems and methods for low cost detection of consumer-side water leaks. A meter reading system comprising: at least one meter data manager computer system; and a plurality of physically separate meter reading devices; wherein each of said meter reading devices is configured to enable a householder to releasably attach a said meter reading device to a domestic utility meter, and wherein a said meter reading device, when attached, is able to read usage data from said domestic utility meter, said usage data representing usage of a consumable utility monitored by said domestic utility meter; and wherein each of said meter reading devices and said at least one meter data manager computer system has a short-range data communications link to enable bidirectional communications between each of said meter reading devices and said at least one meter data manager computer system, wherein said meter data manager computer system includes a data store for storing at least address information for a set of domestic users of said consumable utility, and corresponding utility consumption information for each household monitored by a said domestic utility meter; wherein said meter data manager computer system includes program code to control issue and retrieval of a said meter reading device, wherein said issue comprises: printing of an address label for dispatching of a said meter reading device to a household at said address and downloading address identification data to the meter reading device via said bi-directional communications link to identify the address to which said device is dispatched; and wherein said retrieval comprises: uploading said usage data or data derived from said usage data from a said meter reading device in association with said address identification data, and storing said usage data or data derived from said usage data in said data store in association with the address identified by said address identification data; whereby, in use, said meter reading system is able to dispatch a plurality of said meter reading devices to a plurality of different households and afterwards retrieve and store utility consumption information relating to said households in said data store.

    • Disclosed is an automatic remote meter-reading method and apparatus for a rotation needle type or rotation number wheel type metering device. The rotation frequency of the needle or number wheel is counted using a changing pattern in the output signal of plural photoelectric elements. The plural photoelectric elements are arranged in one column or row, or so as to have a certain desired area, and one or more light emitting element are disposed adjacent to the photoelectric elements, thereby forming a photosensor unit. The light from the light emitting element is incident on a scale plate of the rotation needle or on the surface of a certain number wheel, which corresponds to a certain number place below the significant number for a meter-reading. The light reflected from the surface is detected by the plural photoelectric elements, which converts it into a collection of electrical signals. A reference pattern is stored in a microcomputer beforehand. The reference pattern is a level change with time of an electrical signal output from each photoelectric element during one cycle of rotation of the specific rotation needle or rotation number wheel. The microcomputer extracts a level-changing pattern with time of an electrical signal output from the plural photoelectric elements and compares them with the stored reference pattern to thereby determine whether the specific needle or wheel has performed one rotation. The counted rotation frequency is accumulated and, when required, transmitted to a data-administrating computer of utility companies, through an appropriate communication system.
