摘要： Handheld electronic communication device rotarily transitionable between compact and expanded configurations. The device includes an elongate display panel positioned adjacent and in parallel orientation with an elongate keyboard panel in the compact configuration. The display panel and keyboard panel are coupled together by a rotary connection that interconnects with the keyboard panel in an upper quadrant area of a front face thereof at a distance from a vertical centerline of the keyboard panel. The interconnection enables relative rotation between the panels and maintains the panels parallel to one another through out rotational transition between the compact and expanded configurations. The elongate display panel includes a display screen having a greater length than width and a lengthwise oriented centerline, the lengthwise oriented centerline being horizontally oriented when the device is configured in the expanded configuration.

摘要： A mobile device includes a keypad portion, a display portion, at least one input device, and a processor. The processor is operable to run a plurality of software applications. The keypad portion is rotatably coupled to the display portion and rotatable between a first configuration and a second configuration. The processor is operable to automatically select and run a software application depending upon the configuration of the device. A coupling is provided between the keypad portion and the display portion for allowing rotation of the keypad portion relative to the display portion. The coupling may be located off the center of the keypad portion in at least one direction.

摘要： A method and apparatus for orienting the character input area keypad (102) and a display image (110) of an electronic device (100). The orientation of the character input area (102) is sensed relative to a housing (108) of the electronic device (100). The display image (110) on a display (104) of the electronic device (100) has its orientation changed to a predetermined orientation relative to the housing (108) as a function of the orientation of the character input area (102). The housing (108) has a physically rotatable keypad (102) and an electronically rotatable display image (110). A sensor provides a sensor signal representative of the orientation of the keypad (102) relative to the housing (108) of the electronic device (100). Display drivers form the display image (110) on the display (104). A processor receives the sensor signal and in response thereto modifies the display drivers to produce the display image (110) on the display (104) with an orientation relative to the housing (108) that is a function of the orientation of the keypad (102).

摘要： The present invention is directed to a handheld electronic device comprising one or two modules operatively interconnected via a pivotable connection mechanism or other moveable mechanical interconnection. Each module has two surfaces facing in opposing direction. The device further comprises a first display carried by a surface of a module, and possibly a text-entry keypad provided on a different surface. The text-entry keypad is optimized for entry of text via thumb-keying styles text-entry, wherein the user's hands cradle the device so the thumbs are in proper position for operation of the keypad. A navigation control may be provided on a surface of the modules, and is sized and positioned to be operated by at least one thumb of the user's hands when cradling the device.
