A switch element (512) can be responsive to the actuator (501) . When in the first position, the switch element (512) can exclusively form a conductive path between the first and second coaxial RF connectors (201, 202) . When the actuator (501) is in the second position, the switch element (512) can exclusively form a conductive path between the first and third coaxial RF connectors (201, 203) .

    • A multipole, multiposition switching relay (10) is provided. The switching relay (10) includes an electromagnetic drive coil (14) having a spring-biased plunger (32) slidably mounted therein. The plunger (32) is operably connected to a switching apparatus (70) for connecting and disconnecting terminals of coaxial connectors (76). The drive coil (14) pulls the plunger (32) into its hollow center when an electric current is applied to the drive coil (14). A magnet (54) located near the drive coil (14) creates a magnetic field which maintains the plunger (32) in the drive coil (14) after the electric current has been disconnected from the drive coil (14), and the switching relay (10) will remain in the chosen state. A second drive coil (16) may be provided which shunts, or reverses, the magnetic field, allowing the plunger (32) to return to its original position due to the biasing force provided by the spring (34). Energizing the second drive coil (16) automatically resets any previously selected position of the first drive coil (14) to its original position. The second drive coil (16) may be a second electromagnetic coil (16) and plunger (32) assembly like the first, or may be a simple reset solenoid having no switching apparatus associated therewith.

    • The invention relates to a switching device for closing or breaking a signal path between two or more high frequency conductors having associated return conductors. The switching device comprises a housing (1) having a cavity (2); at least two contact means (3a, 3b, 3c) located in the cavity and in electrical communication with conductors in associated external connecting contacts whose return conductors have metallic contact with the housing. The device further has at least one magnetically actuated contact reed (4a, 4b) which is freely movable between a home position and a contact position in communication with the contact means; permanent magnets (10a, 11a; 10b, 11b; 10', 11') which are disposed outside, and on opposing sides, of the cavity for generating a retaining force on the contact reed when in said positions and for acting on the contact reed with substantially similar sized opposing forces when midway between said positions; and electromagnet means (9a, 9b; 9a', 9b'), disposed outside the cavity, for generating a supplementary force on the contact reed and initiating its movement between said positions. The cavity is electrically closed and means (12a, 12b, 12c) are arranged to form, in the home position, a short circuit between the contact reed (4a, 4b) and the metal housing (1).
