摘要： Apparatus and method for selectively enabling writing of data multiple times onto a write-once read-many optical disk by a host system, the disk having a disk type indicator, and each sector having a SWF field and a flag field and user data, wherein new data bits replace existing data bits in a one-for-one ratio without mapping. The apparatus comprises an optical disk drive having: a spindle motor rotating an optical disk; an optical assembly/laser generating a laser beam adapted to heat a minute region on the optical disk; a bias magnet affecting the polarity of the heated region; a write/read channel driving the optical assembly/laser and bias magnet; a write/read controller adapted to process a unique erase command and thereby controlling the optical assembly/laser and bias magnet to write every user data bit of a sector to zero in a one-for-one ratio without mapping; and a small computer system interface receiving write commands from a host system.

摘要： The opto-magnetic recording medium comprises at least a multilayered vertically magnetised film having a two-layered structure of a recording layer and a second recording assisting layer. Data are recorded in the first layer, and also in the second layer, at times, by applying a laser beam to the recording medium in the form of bits having A direction magnetisation and bits having direction opposite to A magnetisation. When the intensity of the laser beam is on a high level, A direction magnetisation of the recording assisting layer is reversed to direction opposite to A magnetisation by the recording magnetic field (Hb) so as to form the bits having direction opposite to A magnetisation (or A direction magnetisation) in the recording layer by direction opposite to A magnetisation of this second layer. When the beam intensity is on a low level, bits having A direction magnetisation (or direction opposite to A direction) are formed in the first layer by A direction magnetisation of the second layer.
