    • An imaging apparatus comprising a noncontact charging means for charging a photosensitive body uniformly while keeping a gap accurately between a charging member and the photosensitive body. Gap holding members coated with a diamond-like carbon film (3) are formed at the opposite end parts of the charging means, i.e. a charging roller (1), other than an image region. The charging roller (1) can be co rotated by the photosensitive body (6) through the diamond-like carbon film (3) abutting against the photosensitive body (6). Consequently, a gap G can be held accurately with respect to the photosensitive body (6) and the photosensitive body (6) can be charged uniformly. The gap formed between the charging roller (1) and the photosensitive body (6) by the diamond-like carbon film (3) is 100 mu m or less and an AC voltage is superposed on a DC voltage between the charging roller (1) and the photosensitive body (6).
