    • An apparatus for detecting leaks in sealed packages 1 containing a detectable signature gas, the apparatus comprising a package contact surface 3, an arrangement 2 for subjecting sealed packages on a production line sequentially to compression between the contact surface and the arrangement to promote signature gas leakage, and a gas detector comprising circuitry coupled to electrodes 4 located about expected leakage points of a sealed package. The circuitry applies a voltage across the electrodes to detect a change in electrical characteristics indicative of signature gas leakage from the sealed package. Alternatively, or additionally, the apparatus comprises a gas detector comprising multiple probes arranged in communication with respective ducts to detect a change in local gas characteristics indicative of signature gas leakage from the sealed package. A sealed package 1 containing a perishable product and a signature gas with an electrical breakdown voltage lower than atmospheric air.

    • A system utilizing the combination of an aerosol and a flowing clean gas stream, to inspect sealed packages for leaks by an aerosol detector (70) and detector valve (60). In a first and second embodiment according to the invention using an aerosol generator (20), an aerosol is directed thru or applied inside package (50) via tubing (80) and two connectors (40, 41), while a substantially aerosol free gas stream, particle free, from a gas source (10) is fed thru tubing (90) to flow around the outside of package contained in a sealed test chamber (30). In the first application of the aerosol to the inside of the package, the aerosol gas stream flows through the package; in the second or static situation performed without the second connector (41), aerosol simply will fill the package. For third embodiment of the method, the aerosol flows around the outside of the package while the aerosol free gas stream flows through the inside of the package.

The apparatus includes a conduit over which the open end of the condom to be tested is secured; a restrainer for restricting the expansion of the condom to a size corresponding to the mean anthropomorphic dimensions of a penis; a liquid containing viral particles in suspension, the liquid filling the condom; a pressurizing device for pressurizing the condom via the liquid; and a container filled with a collecting fluid wherein the condom and the restrainer are positioned so that the viral particles that have passed through the condom can be monitored.

    • The invention relates to a method for operating a film leak detector (1). Said detector has two films (5, 6) inserted in a frame (3, 4) which define a test chamber (80) when a test piece (79) is placed therein. Said detector is also provided with two vacuum pumps (13, 30). According to the inventive method, the test chamber (80) is first evacuated and after said evacuation, the detector is switched to the leak detecting mode. To prevent contamination with test gas or dirt, only one (13) of the two vacuum pumps is used during the first phase of evacuation of the test chamber (80) and only the second vacuum pump (30) is used during the leak detection mode.
