    • The fastening element for frame sections of solar modules comprises a retaining element which can be fastened on or in a mounting rail, and a clamping part which comprises, on the upper face thereof, a dish-shaped bearing for receiving a sliding block, wherein the first end of the clamping part is directly or indirectly supported on the mounting rail, and wherein the second end of the clamping part is designed to press the frame section against the mounting rail. The fastening element further comprises a sliding block which is movably mounted in the dish-shaped bearing, and also a threaded screw which is screwed through corresponding recesses in the sliding block and in the dish-shaped bearing of the clamping part into the retaining element and establishes a connection between the clamping part and the retaining element. The clamping part is designed such the second end thereof presses the frame section of the solar module against the mounting rail and fastens the frame section when the threaded screw is tightened. The application further relates to a fastening system for solar modules, in which a retaining element is maintained in a longitudinal recess of a profiled hollow rail, said retaining element having pivotally mounted expansion jaws at the bottom of the retaining element. The expansion jaws are designed to be inserted into the longitudinal recess of the profiled hollow rail, the expanded expansion jaws blocking the retaining element within the profiled hollow rail when a pulling force is applied to the retaining element.

    • An apparatus for securing members to the surface. The apparatus includes a mounting clamp (120), a mounting adaptor (112), a panel support member (108) and a fastener (116). The panel support member (108) and the mounting adaptor (112) are slidably interconnected to one another. The mounting adaptor is fixedly interconnected to the mounting clamps using the fastener. The mounting adaptor may also include an area of reduced strength to permit the controlled failure of the apparatus in response to excess loading. The panel support member (108) may be adapted to receive a panel. When installed on a surface, the apparatus obscures the view of mounting devices or equipment that may also be secured to the surface.

    • A novel design of solar thermal collector is presented which is double glazed and formed substantially from a clear polymer extrusion which simplifies the manufacturing process. The internal gas separation sheets are mounted in a novel sliding arrangement which solves the problem of differential thermal expansion between the clear polymer body of the collector and the internal gas separation sheets which may be at a relatively high temperature. Also a novel thermostatic device allows convective circulation of the internal gas in higher stagnation temperatures to prevent over heating of the internal gas separating sheets and of the device as a whole. Finally a novel mounting arrangement is presented for forming a continuous weather proof roof from a multiplicity of collector modules in an array, and a variant is presented which steps up the across-roof configuration to more optimally mount the modules for winter sun orientation while maintaining a low profile to the roof. Other variations on this design are presented.
