    • A method and apparatus (2) of separating, in a production well (4), water from a water- and hydrocarbon-containing production flow (6) emanating from at least one surrounding production formation (8); and also of injecting, in the production well (4), a resulting water-containing liquid (10) into at least one surrounding disposal formation (12), whilst a resulting hydrocarbon-containing liquid (14) is produced out of the production well (4). The water-containing liquid (10) is separated from the production flow (6) by using at least one water separation device (26) being exposed to a pressure difference (P 1 -P 2 ) that sucks water from the production flow (6) and through the water separation device (26). Said water-containing liquid (10) is thus provided. The water separation device (26) may, for example, comprise at least one hydrophilic and water-permeable material (28). The pressure difference (P 1 -P 2 ) may be provided through suitable adjustment of a gas pressure (P3) in a first gas column (40) at a downstream side of the water separation device (26). The gas within the gas column (40) may be supplied from a gas source at the surface, a gas source in a subsurface formation and/or gas being separated from the well flow.

    • A method for producing a gas and a liquid in a subterranean well includes the step directing a gas flow in a well annulus through one or more baffle plates to separate at least some of the liquid from the gas. The method can also include the steps of directing the separated liquid down the annulus towards a producing formation of the well, dehydrating the gas flow proximate to a surface of the well, and then directing the dehydrated gas flow to the surface. A system for performing the method includes a set of baffle plates located proximate to the producing formation configured to provide a tortuous path for the gas flow through the annulus, and a single baffle plate located proximate to the surface configured to dehydrate the gas flow. In addition to separating the liquid from the gas flow, the set of baffle plates maintains a single phase wet gas above the baffle plates, and a liquid phase below the baffle plates.

    • The invention provides a method for recovering hydrocarbons from a subterranean production interval (6) while reducing the percentage of water produced. A lateral well (2) is drilled from an existing primary well (1). A submersible pump (4) is deployed to a position in the primary well (1) below the intersection with the lateral well (2). The pump injects separated water into the production interval (6) through the primary well (1), at a rate sufficient to allow favorable gravity separation of the hydrocarbons and water in the area above the submersible (pump4) . Suitable submersible pumps (4) include an electric submersible pump, a cavity pump and a rod pump. One or more lateral wells may be used. The lateral wells can intersect the same production interval as the primary well or can intersect an unconnected production interval.
