摘要： Alpha-olefins such as 1-decene are copolymerized with vinylaromatic monomers, especially styrene or the alkylstyrenes, to produce liquid lubricant oligomers having a broad range of viscosities, high viscosity index(VI), improved thermal stability and additive solubility characteristics. The lubricant oligomers are random copolymers containing recurring units of 1-alkene and vinyl aromatic monomer in mole ratios between 2:1 and 500:1, but preferably between 5:1 and 100:1 and more preferably from about 10:1 to 50:1. The recurring 1-alkene units of the copolymer have a branch ratio of less than 0.19, indicative of a poly 1-alkene segment of the copolymer chain or backbone that is essentially linear. The copolymerization catalyst is a reduced Group VIB metal catalyst on porous support, preferably reduced chromium oxide on a silica support.

摘要： The present invention relates to poly α-olefins (PAO's) which exhibit superior Noack volatility at low pour points. Mixtures of 1-decene and 1-dodecene are polymerized using an alcohol pronoted BF 3 in conjunction with a combination of cocatalysts. The reaction mixture is distilled to remove the unreacted monomeric and dimeric species. The resulting products is then hydrogenated to saturate the oligomers to provide a hydrogenated prodcts which has a viscosity of 5 cSt. This product is distilled to provide PAO's of varying viscosity grades. The 4 cSt PAO is comprised mostly of trimers and tetramers while the 6cSt product is comprised of trimers, tetramers, and pentamers.

摘要： A lubricating oil comprising a random copolymer of an alpha -olefin/aromatic vinyl compound, wherein the copolymer has a viscosity falling within a specific range and comprises ethylene, an aromatic vinyl compound, and optionally an alpha -olefin. The lubricating oil possesses excellent viscosity properties, thermal stability, oxidation stability, abrasion resistance, and compatibility with lubricating oil additives. The random copolymer having a different viscosity range is useful as a viscosity index improver and a compatibilizing agent for a lubricating oil. The invention also provides a lubricating oil composition comprising a base oil and the viscosity index improver or the compatibilizing agent. The invention further provides a fuel oil composition comprising a fuel oil fluidity improver based on the above random copolymer having a different viscosity range and a middle fraction fuel oil having a boiling point of 150 to 400 DEG C. The fuel oil composition prevents an increase in viscosity of the middle fraction fuel oil, lowers the clogging point and the flow point in a low-temperature filter, and inhibits the abrasion of a fuel jet nozzle.

摘要： A novel series of copolymers and terpolymers, useful as base oils for synthetic lubricants, are produced by polymerization of ethylene, an alpha-olefin, and optionally a third monomer comprising an alpha-olefin of 3 to 20 carbon atoms, in the presence of a combination catalyst comprising a compound of a transition metal of Group IVb of the Periodic Table and an aluminoxane. The copolymer or terpolymer may be further processed by thermal cracking to yield novel cracked polymers, and the cracked polymers may be hydrogenated. The copolymers or terpolymers may also be hydroisomerized. All the polymers are useful as base oils for lubricating oils and consumer products.
