The modified polyisocyanates are prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate with an aliphatic alcohol having one active hydrogen atom. These modified polyisocyanates, along with a phenolic resole resin, are added to a foundry aggregate to form a foundry mix which is shaped and cured with a gaseous amine curing catalyst.

摘要： The invention is directed to a tin or bismuth catalyst/mercapto complex which exhibits substantially the same stability and activity after extended periods of storage as upon initial formation. This is achieved by restricting the vehicle for the catalyst complex to one that will not react with the mercapto compound upon extended storage of the catalyst system. These vehicles include aromatic hydrocarbons and terpenes. Ketone vehicles are excluded. Preferred vehicles include toluene, xylene, turpentine and d-limonene. Methods for forming the stabilized catalyst complex are claimed. Polymercapto/polyisocyanate resin formulations are claimed as more stable by the elimination of ketone vehicles. The cure rate of the resin formulations can be retarded by blending with acrylic resins. Stabilized tin catalyst complexes may also be used.

摘要： A binder for a mold or core prepared via a cold box process eliminates the use of organic solvents, the presence of free formaldehyde or phenol emanating from binders containing phenolic resins and prevents premature curing by the use of a binder comprising a polyol and an organic polyisocyanate. The binder is mixed with a foundry aggregate to form a foundry mix which is shaped into a mold or core in the presence of a gaseous tertiary amine catalyst. The mold or core is utilized in metal casting.

摘要： A process of drying or curing coatings and films of paints, lacquers, varnishes, printing vehicles and inks. A substrate is coated in any appropriate manner by a vehicle such as a one-or two-component paint and exposed to a drying or curing agent which is deposited electrostatically on the coated vehicle. The steps of coating the substrate with the vehicle and deposition of the drying agent are performed either simultaneously or sequentially. Apparatus includes an electrostatic spray gun (21) with a barrel (22) and a concentrically located shroud (25) ensuring the atomised drying agent is not emitted before the tip (26) of the barrel is reached.
