    • A pressure reducer (18; 318) is configured for use in a liquid delivery system that requires its liquid contents to be pressurized to a first, relatively high pressure but also requires that the liquid be delivered to a downstream location such as a faucet at a second, relatively low pressure. The pressure reducer reduces the pressure of the flowing liquid by repeatedly imparting directional changes to the liquid. Preferably, the pressure reducer comprises a stationary restrictor (27; 327, 327'), having multiple aligned segments, each of which is configured to divide the liquid into two or more diverging streams and to recombine the streams at the end of the segment. Each segment preferably comprises a curved blade (26; 326) having opposed generally toroidal surfaces that border one of two divided liquid streams.

    • Method and apparatus for the high speed dispensing of all beverages, and particularly carbonated beverages. The major elements of the device include a main flow control valve (3) coupled to a pressurized container (1) such as a beer keg, a positive shut-off filling nozzle (10), a pressure control valve (7) associated with the filling nozzle, and requisite control electronics and actuators to establish a dispenser operating sequence. A defined dose of beverage is dispensed by first closing the main flow valve, then briefly opening the pressure control valve, thereby lowering the hydraulic pressure in the nozzle to a desired pressure lower than that applied to the beverage container, then gently opening the beverage filling nozzle and immediately thereafter opening the main flow valve, maintaining the main flow valve in an open condition for a time required to produce a defined dose of beverage, and then rapidly closing the beverage filling nozzle while maintaining the main flow control valve in an open condition.

    • In an apparatus and method for maintaining a desired (target) carbonation level in a carbonator, a control-signal originates from a reference standard of carbonated water close to the target carbonation level, which is sealed inside a pilot chamber of the regulator. The pilot chamber is exposed to the water temperature in the carbonator and is shaped and sized so as to promote rapid equalization of the temperature of the reference standard with that of the carbonated water. The pressure inside the pilot chamber is equal to the equilibrium vapour pressure, according to the temperature and carbonation level of the reference standard. This pressure is transmitted through a flexible membrane in one of the walls of the pilot chamber to a valve in the gas-supply line of the carbonator. This valve, therefore, balances the CO2 gas pressure within the carbonator with the equilibrium vapour pressure in the pilot chamber. Since the equilibrium vapour pressure in the pilot chamber is precisely equivalent to the saturated concentration of the reference standard at the prevailing temperature, the adjustment of the carbonator pressure to this equilibrium pressure results in a constant carbonation-driving force.
