    • A system for storing and retrieving ISO freight containers including a first supporting structure and a second supporting structure. Each supporting structure has at least an upper portion and is separated from the other by a fixed distance.     • A container storage system is provided comprising a storage area (10) and a support framework (13, 14, 15 and 16), the storage area having a longitudinal axis (11) with a shorter transverse axis (12). The invention substantially reduces the amount of space taken up by roadways compared to known systems, in which the roadways extend longitudinally through storage areas.
