    • A bridge mandrel is provided which is simple to manufacture, light weight, and easy to mount and dismount from underlying printing cylinders in flexographic and gravure printing systems. The bridge mandrel (10) includes a generally hollow, cylindrically-shaped tube adapted to fit over a print cylinder (12). A channel (38) extends substantially around the circumference of the inner surface (100) of the tube, and a plurality of orifices (40) extend generally radially outwardly from the channel to the outer surface (102) of the tube. The channel and orifices permit pressurized air to be provided from the interior of the mandrel to its surface for the mounting of a print sleeve (16) onto the mandrel. In one embodiment, the bridge mandrel includes a locking mechanism (20) which is adapted to engage a pin (22) on the print cylinder to prevent movement of the mandrel during printing operations.

    • The invention concerns an impression cylinder comprising a support cylinder, at least a printing sleeve designed to be mounted on said support cylinder and indexing means for each sleeve on the support cylinder, said indexing means comprising a recess or the like provided on one lateral face of the sleeve and emerging on its internal wall, and at least an indexing device borne by the support cylinder and capable of projecting thereon, the recess and each indexing device being designed to co-operate for mounting the sleeve on the support cylinder. The invention is characterised in that the printing sleeve (22) comprises at least a ring (32) in the extension of its internal wall (221) and at least partly projecting on said lateral face (223), ring wherein is provided said recess or the like (320), said ring protecting the sleeve from impacts between the latter and the indexing device, when the sleeve is being mounted on the support cylinder.
