摘要： Embodiments include methods, systems, and/or devices that may be used to create aberration-corrected gradient index lenses. In some embodiments, data related to aberration measurements is received. This data is processed and an inverse map is generated to compensate for the aberration measurements. An intensity pattern corresponding to the inverse map is then projected onto a blank lens (e.g., to locally polymerize a mobile monomer) to create an exposed lens with a gradient index to correct for the aberration measurement. For example, in some embodiments, the lens may be an intraocular lens and the data can be generated by using a wavefront sensor to measure aberrations (e.g., an optical phase profile to correct defocus or astigmatism) in a patient's eye.

摘要： A method for modifying the refractive index of an optical, hydrated polymeric material. The method comprises irradiating select regions of the optical, polymeric material with a visible or near- IR laser having a pulse energy from 0.05 nJ to 1000 nJ. The irradiation results in the formation of refractive optical structures, characterized by a change in refractive index, exhibit little or no scattering loss, and exhibit no significant differences in the Raman spectrum with respect to the non- irradiated optical, polymeric material. The method can be used to modify the refractive index of an intraocular lens following the surgical implantation of the intraocular lens in a human eye. The invention is also directed to an optical device comprising refractive optical structures, wherein the refractive structures are characterized by a change in refractive index, exhibit little or no scattering loss, and exhibit no significant differences in the Raman spectrum with respect to the non-irradiated optical, polymeric material.

摘要： The present invention relates to methods of implementing an optical element having a refraction modulating composition. The methods include using a wavefront sensor to provide an optical measurement of the optical element. The present invention also relates to systems comprising an optical element having a refraction modulating composition and a wavefront sensor. An embodiment is described in which the optical element is an intraocular lens. Optical aberrations of the lens measured by the wavefront sensor are corrected by photo-polymerization of the refraction modulating composition which alters the refractive properties of the lens. Correction of lens refractive errors can be carried out after the lens has been implanted in the eye.
