    • The subject of this invention is a method to produce plastic tube (1) and according to this method the material of the plastic tube is fed around a core (2) that has the same diameter as the inside diameter of the tube, and the material is fed as ail uninterrupted material flow so that the material flow, after having settled upon the core, goes forward following essentially the helical line in the side direction (x) of the core inside a mold (4) that has been mounted on the core. The plastic tube is formed of the material ribbons (3) and of the melted plastic material (5) that is to be fed to the spaces between the ribbons. The round and rising sheet (4.3) at the end of the mold directs the material flow to the side direction (x) of the core and the head of the plastic tube (1.1) gets welded and fixed to the starting tube (7) that is used to draw the tube as the production process advances in the side direction (x) of the core.

    • The present invention relates to a process for producing a hollow body of fibre-reinforced thermoplastic, and an arrangement for performing the process. In the process a continuous fibre bundle (3) is transported from means of transport (2). A section of the continuous fibre bundle (3) is heated up and the fibres in the section are impregnated with a thermoplastic. The impregnated fibre section is applied to a core-moulding tool (6), capable of controllable rotation about a shaft and located in an oven (5) with separate temperature control (5a). The angle or rotation of the core-moulding tool, together with the axial application position of the fibre section and the rate of feed of the fibre section are controlled in order to produce a hollow body with a pre-determined configuration on the core-moulding tool (6). The oven temperature is also controlled so that the thermoplastic on the core-moulding tool (6) is viscous during application. The tension in the fibre section is also controlled so that the fibres remain continuous and essentially extended whilst the process is being carried out. Application to the core-moulding tool (6) is terminated when the hollow body has taken on a pre-determined configuration, following which the rate of cooling of the hollow body is controlled by means of a separate temperature control for the oven (5a).

    • In the manufacture of reinforced composites having reinforcing filaments within a matrix, a filament consisting of a staple yarn spun from discontinuous fibres with low twist is subject to controlled stretching to vary the weight per unit length of the yarn along the length of the yarn. Apparatus for performing the stretching operation comprises two roll pairs (11, 12 and 13, 14) spaced apart along the yarn feed path and rotated at controlled relative speeds to obtain the desired elongation of the yarn. The yarn may be used directly in producing a composite e.g. by applying resin to the yarn and winding it onto a mandrel or former, or it may be used to prepare a preform, prepeg tape, woven fabric or the like to be used in the production of a shaped composite. The invention makes it possible to vary the characteristics, e.g. thickness and/or strength, over a composite in a way not previously possible.
