    • The present invention relates generally to providing processes, methods and apparatus to produce and apply a variety of surface cleaning and modification spray treatments. More specifically, the present invention provides the simultaneous steps of 1) selectively removing one or more unwanted surface contaminants, including extremely hard coatings, 2) exposing a native clean surface layer and 3) modifying said exposed and cleaned native substrate surface layer to energetic radicals and radiation to improve adhesion, wettability or coatability. Reactive species in combination with non-reactive, but chemically or physically active, species provide a rich reaction control and surface treatment environment by which contaminants and surface interlayers are oxidatively, physically and/or chemically removed or modified to prepare an underlying substrate surface for subsequent bonding, deposition, coating and curing operations. Substrates treated in accordance with the present invention have cleaner and higher surface free energy surfaces.

    • The invention can be used in the building industry. The inventive method for machining essentially stone pitching of buildings consists in a continuous injection of solid particles of a working medium into a transporting stream of compressed air, whereby a suspended matter is formed. Said suspended matter is supplied to a working member embodied in the form of a checker-nozzle and undergoes therein the action of an ancillary stream of the working medium embodied in the form of a supersonic jet of residual combustion gases. The hot gaseous working medium warms up and expands air in the suspended matter and simultaneously transfers kinematic energy to the suspended solid particles thereof. As a result of the overtemperature of the working medium with respect to the suspended matter, the speed and pressure inside the checker-nozzle increases hundreds of times and initiates the supersonic speed of a discharge escape. The inventive device for producing the supersonic jet comprises a body embraced by a shell forming a cooling housing. Said housing is connected to the compressed air supply with the aid of a turbulence nozzle and linked to a combustion chamber.

    • The abrasive cleaning device operates to direct streams of abrasive particles from a plurality of nozzles (108) against a surface to be cleaned. The nozzles are recessed in a nozzle chamber (106) and each receives a separate stream of abrasive particles from a divider unit (116). The divider unit receives a single stream of compressed air and abrasive particles from a supply source and separates the abrasive particles from the compressed air. The divider unit then divides the compressed air into a plurality of streams of equal pressure, and adds an equal amount of abrasive particles to each stream. A vacuum source (12) creates a vacuum in an abrasive particle reclamation unit (46) and in vacuum chambers (94, 96) connected to the abrasive particle reclamation unit. The vacuum chambers extend on each side of the nozzle chamber but are separate therefrom. Abrasive particles and debris from the surface to be cleaned pass through the vacuum chambers to the abrasive particle reclamation unit where the debris is separated from the abrasive particles. Abrasive particles collected in the abrasive particle reclamation unit are conveyed by an air stream to a particle supply unit (26).
