摘要： A hybrid prosthetic heart valve configured to replace a native heart valve and having a support frame configured to be expanded post implant in order to receive and/or support an expandable prosthetic heart valve therein (a valve-in-valve procedure). The prosthetic heart valve may be configured to have a generally rigid and/or expansion- resistant configuration when initially implanted to replace a native valve (or other prosthetic heart valve), but to assume a generally expanded form when subjected to an outward force such as that provided by a dilation balloon or other mechanical expander. An inflow stent frame is expandable for anchoring the valve in place, and may have an outflow end that is collapsible for delivery and expandable post-implant to facilitate a valve-in-valve procedure.

The apparatus comprises a lens compactor having a first configuration for retaining the intraocular lens in an unstressed condition and a second configuration in which the compactor stresses the lens into an at least partially compacted condition without advancing the lens along an injection axis of the compactor. The compactor accomplishes this by applying a compacting force in a direction generally orthogonal to the optical axis of the lens. The compactor is responsive to a compactor actuator that is movable by a user to change the compactor from the first configuration to the second configuration. Additional apparatus and methods are disclosed as well.

The method involves the use of a curable polyurethane biomaterial composition having a plurality of parts adapted to be mixed at the time of use in order to provide a flowable composition and to initiate cure. The flowable composition can be delivered using minimally invasive means to a tissue site and there fully cured provide a permanent and biocompatible prosthesis for repair of the tissue site. Further provided are a mold apparatus, e.g., in the form of a balloon or tubular cavity, for receiving a biomaterial composition, and a method for delivering and filling the mold apparatus with a curable composition in situ to provide a prosthesis for tissue repair.

摘要： The present invention provides methods for modifying surfaces of metal alloy and/or UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene), preferably surfaces which are frictionally engaged, e.g., in an orthopaedic implant. The methods reduce the coefficient of friction of the metal alloy component, reduce the shearing of fibrils from the UHMWPE component. One method involves solvent immersion of the UHMWPE component to remove short chains of polyethylene at or near its surface, and to swell and toughen its subsurface. Another method also involves firmly coating the surface of the metal alloy component with an adherent layer of diamond-like carbon ("DLC") by creating a metal-silicide interface at the surface of the metal alloy to permit firmer adhesion of DLC. Although these methods are particularly useful in orthopaedic applications, they can also be used to treat similar components used in other applications.
