    • The modular shelving system consists of one or more uprights (1) in combination with respective supporting shelving brackets (10, 11) which engage with the uprights (1) by means of slots (7) provided in the uprights (1). The brackets (10, 11) act to support a shelf (5) which is attached to the brackets by means of a screw (9) which passes through the bracket (10, 11) to the underneath of the shelf (5). To ensure accurate alignment of the screw (9), a screw guide (17) is provided within the bracket (10, 11) which is releasably held within the bracket (10, 11) by means of biased lugs (23) which engage with apertures (16) provided in the walls of the bracket (10, 11). In addition to ensuring that the screw cuts into the underneath of the shelf (5) substantially perpendicular to its surface, the screw guide (17) is removable detachable from the bracket (10, 11) so that when it is desired to reposition the shelf (5) the need to cut new screw holes in the shelf (5) is avoided as the screw guide (17) with the screw (9) is removed from the bracket (10, 11) and stays with the shelf (5) whilst the brackets are repositioned on the uprights (1).

    • A vertically stabilized shelf bracket assembly having at least two support strips on which a plurality of shelf brackets are mounted. The shelving is stabilized in several ways. First, the brackets are provided with a shelf engaging recess. The recess is either designed to provide a tight fit for the shelf, or the recess is provided with a shim for tightening the fit. Second, the brackets are provided with a vertical member which engages the shelves. Preferably, the recess and the vertical member will engage the shelf at opposite ends of the shelf, securing the shelf to the bracket. When the shelf is attached to multiple brackets, the shelf will be prevented from pivoting on the bracket. The shelves can be further stabilized by securing the brackets against vertical displacement. This can be accomplished by securing the shelf brackets to the support strip with a locking pin. With the locking pin in place, the shelf bracket cannot be moved upward. Another way of securing the brackets is to provide a vertical stabilizer, comprising an elongated member, preferably of steel or aluminium, having an arm extending perpendicularly therefrom. The arm will fit tightly into a slot in a support strip. When the arm is in place, the elongated member will be positioned over and in contact with the base of the shelf bracket, so that the bracket cannot be moved upward. The vertical stabilizer will be held in place by the cover which fits over the support strips.

The hook-shaped portion (8) has a base length which corresponds to the height of the slot (3). The shelf bracket (4) is adapted to be applied obliquely from above in the supporting element (1) and, subsequently, be pivoted in place downwards. The recess (15) has a width that is greater than the material thickness of the supporting element (1) in said slot area for releasable receiving of the locking element (5), which is adapted to be positioned perpendicular to the plane of the shelf bracket (4) and which prevents the shelf bracket (4) from being pivoted in relation to the supporting element (1), whereby the shelf bracket (4) is releasably locked on the supporting element (1).
