    • A shell-type centrifuge rotor (10) has a sample container support sleeve (30) extending through the cavity (24C) in a plate (24). The sleeve (30) has at least two slots (30C, 30D) which define at least one resilient flange (30F) pivotally deflectable about a pivot axis (30P) to hold the sleeve (30) in a fixed relationship with respect to the plate (24). In one embodiment, both slots (30C, 30D) extend axially along the sleeve (30). In an alternate embodiment, a first one of the slots (31) extends axially along the sleeve (30') and the second one of the slots (32) extends circumferentially along the sleeve (30'). In a modification to the alternate embodiment, a second circumferential slot (32') is formed in the sleeve (30") in a generally parallel relationship to the first circumferentially extending slot (32).

    • A swinging bucket centrifuge rotor (10) comprises a body (12) that has a reference plane (10R) that extends generally perpendicular to a vertically extending axis of rotation (10A). The body (12) has at least one pair of confronting planar sidewalls (24A, 24B) each of which has a trunnion pin (30) mounted thereon. Each trunnion pin (30) has an axis (30A) therethrough that extends generally perpendicularly to the planar sidewall (24A, 24B) on which the pin (30) is mounted. Each sidewall (24A, 24B) further has a generally cylindrical swinging bucket support surface (40) thereon. Each cylindrical support surface (40) has an axis of generation (40A) that lies in the reference plane (10R) in parallel relationship to the axis (30A) of the trunnion pin (30). Thus, a portion of each cylindrical support surface (40) lies above and below the reference plane (10R).

    • The cover (24) for a fixed angle centrifuge rotor (10) has an array of container support surfaces (44) depending from the lower surface (24B) thereof. Each support surface (44) is substantially cylindrical in configuration and has an axis (44A) associated therewith.     • A centrifuge network communication system (10) for transmitting instructions to, and receiving data from, a plurality of centrifuge instruments (C(1)-C(n)) using a central data controller (12). Due to the interleaving of the data packets, a command execution packet transmitted to a first centrifuge instrument further acts as a command arbitration packet for a second centrifuge instrument, and a transmit acknowledge packet transmitted to the first centrifuge instrument further functions as a command execution packet for the second centrifuge instrument and a centrifuge arbitration packet for a third centrifuge instrument.

    • A method for manufacturing a rotor structure (10) for a motor using a square shaft member (12) and four magnet members (18A-D) and the structure produced thereby.
