    • Detection of East Asian layout features and reconstruction of East Asian layout features is provided. Vertically written text in the fixed format document is detected and rotated for layout analysis. After layout analysis, the rotated text is rotated back and restructured in a flow format document. When a plurality of characters is written horizontally in a vertical line of text, vertically overlapping text runs are detected, designated as horizontal-in-vertical text, and are restructured as horizontal-in-vertical text in a flow format document. Lines of text are analyzed for attributes of a ruby line and are designated as ruby text, associated with corresponding text in a ruby base line, and restructured as ruby text in a flow format document. Text in a fixed format document is analyzed for detection of a particular East Asian language so that a font for the language is designated in a flow format document.

    • A cloud-based service provides incentives for users of devices such as game consoles, personal computers, smartphones, and the like to explicitly acknowledge product placements within media content by offering rewards to the users that may be obtained by performing certain user actions as the media content is being consumed and rendered on the device. The user actions may comprise clicking a button or performing a gesture to an input device, for example, at particular times in the media content presentation in which a branded product is shown, mentioned, or used. A client component on the device captures the user actions as signals which are sent to the service which compares the signals against known reward criteria. If reward criteria are met by the user actions, the service can provide either digital or physical rewards to the user.

    • Various embodiments relating to encoding a sparse matrix into a data structure format that may be efficiently processed via parallel processing of a computing system are provided. In one embodiment, a sparse matrix may be received. A set of designated rows of the sparse matrix may be traversed until all non-zero elements in the sparse matrix have been placed in a first array. Each time a row in the set is traversed, a next non-zero element in that row may be placed in the first array. If all non-zero elements for a given row of the set of designated rows have been placed in the first array, the given row may be replaced in the set of designated rows with a next unprocessed row of the sparse matrix. The data structure in which the sparse matrix is encoded may be outputted. The data structure may include the first array.
