    • A fluid power assisted rack and pinion steering apparatus (10) for a vehicle includes a rack (40) connectable with steerable wheels of the vehicle, a housing (20) partially enclosing the rack (40) and defining a fluid chamber (39), a bushing (390 or 590) encircling the rack (40), a sleeve (420 or 620) supporting the rack (40) for sliding movement relative to the bushing (390 or 590), and a fluid tight seal 10 member (370 or 570) for sealing the fluid chamber (39) . The bushing (390 or 590) has opposite axial ends (391, 412 or 591, 612) and is secured in the housing (20) by an interference fit between an outer surface 394 or 594) of the bushing (390 or 590) and an inner 15 surface (26) of the housing (20) .The sleeve (420 or 620) extends between the bushing (390 or 590) and the rack (40) . The sleeve (420 or 620) has at least one radially extending tab (431 or 631) received in a corresponding recess (418 or 618) in the bushing (390 20 or 590) .     • A rack and pinion steering gear (10) comprises a housing (12) having an longitudinally extending passage (14). A yoke bore (22) extends perpendicular to the longitudinally extending passage (14) and connects with the longitudinally extending passage (14) within the housing (12). A pinion gear (20) is rotatably mounted in the housing (12). A rack bar (16) extends through the longitudinally extending passage (14) of the housing (12) and is movable relative to the pinion gear (20). The rack bar (16) has teeth in meshing engagement with the teeth (34) of the pinion gear (20). A yoke assembly (36) is located in the yoke bore (22) for at least partially supporting and guiding movement of the rack bar (16) relative to the pinion gear (20). The yoke assembly (36) includes a yoke (38), a yoke plug (42), and an elastomeric spring (40). The yoke (38) is axially spaced from the yoke plug (42) by the elastomeric spring (40). The elastomeric spring (40) is secured to the yoke (38) and to the yoke plug (42) so that the yoke (38), the elastomeric spring (40), and the yoke plug (42) form a unitized assembly.

    • A rack and pinion steering gear (10) includes a housing (12), a pinion gear (20) rotatably mounted in the housing, and a rack (16) movable relative to the pinion gear. A preassembled yoke assembly (36) includes a yoke (38, 100), a yoke plug (42, 104), and a biasing member (40, 102) assembled as a single unit and positioned in the yoke bore (22). The yoke (38, 100) and yoke plug (42, 104) are movable relative to each other along an axis (A) of the preassembled yoke assembly (36) and have opposing surfaces spaced a predetermined distance from each other. The biasing member (40, 102) is supported between the yoke (38, 100) and yoke plug (42, 104) and biases the opposing surfaces away from each other. The opposing surfaces are movable toward each other against the bias of the biasing member (40, 102).
