    • A plastic bag comprises first and second panels each having a top, a bottom, and first and second opposing sides. The first and second panels (25, 26) are joined to each other along their respective bottoms, their respective first opposing sides, and their respective second opposing sides. The plastic bag includes a zipper (11) having a male and female track (12). The male track includes a male profile and a first fin (16), in which the first fin is affixed to the first panel in proximity to the top of said first panel. The female track (13) includes a female profile and a second fin (16), in which the second fin is affixed to the second panel in proximity to the top of said second panel. The male and female profiles having complementary cross sections. The inventive fins comprises a first resin and optionally a second resin which along with the fins seals are able to withstand greater forces and more adverse conditions. At least one of the fins comprises a first resin having a polydispersity of about 1 to about 4, a melt index of about 0.2 to about 20, and a melt flow ratio of about 12 to about 35. The second resin, if used, may either be coextruded or blended with the first resin.

    • A reclosable plastic bag comprises first and second opposing panels fixedly connected to each other along a pair of sides and a bottom bridging the pair of sides. The bag is provided with a reclosable zipper (22) extending along a mouth formed opposite the sealed bottom (20). The zipper includes a male track with a male profile and a female track with a female profile. A slider (32) is slidably mounted to the zipper for movement between a closed position and an open position. The male and female profiles are engaged to each other while the slider is in the closed position. The male and female profiles are disengaged from each other in response to movement of the slider to the open position. To prevent tampering with the contents of the plastic bag prior to being initially opened, the slider is initially parked in the closed position at one end of the zipper, and upper edges of the male and female profiles are detachably connected to each other, except at the one end of the zipper supporting the parked slider. The slider cannot be moved from the closed position until a one-time tamper-evident feature (36, 38) is broken or, alternatively, movement of the slider from the closed position will break the tamper-evident feature.

    • The present invention provides a plastic bag to which a zipper (24, 32) having fins (26, 34) may be attached without fusing the fins together. The bag has an excellent seal between the fins and the respective body panels (12, 14) of the plastic bag. The zipper includes a male and female track. The male track includes a male profile (24) and a first fin (26) with the first fin having an inner layer (28) and an outer layer (30). The female track includes a female profile (32) and a second fin (34) with the second fin having an inner layer (36) and an outer layer (38), in which the inner layers of the fins are formed from a higher melting point material than the outer layers of the fins. Preferably, the inner layer should have a melting point at least about 5 DEG C higher than the outer layer seal to be produced between the fins and their respective body panels without fusing the fins to each other. Some examples of higher melting point material resins comprising the inner layer include the following: high density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), metallocene-catalyzed LLDPE, polypropylene (PP) and ethylene-propylene copolymer (E-P copolymer). Resins comprising the lower melting outer layer include the following: ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), low density polyethylene (LDPE), very low density polyethylene (VLDPE), LLDPE and metallocene-catalyzed LLDPE.

    • The present invention improves performance of the side and/or fin seals (16) of plastic bags through the use of resins that have a narrow molecular weight distribution or polydispersity. The performance of the side seal and/or fin seal of a plastic bag is improved by using body panels (25, 26) which comprise a first resin, and optionally, a second resin. The first resin is preferably prepared in the presence of a single site catalyst. The first resin has a polydispersity of from about 1 to about 4, a melt index of from about 0.2 to about 20, and a melt flow ratio (I20/I2) of from about 12 to about 35. The use of such first resins results in side and fin seals which are stronger, tougher, and less likely to leak. The second resin is a polymer such as LDPE, LLDPE, or a blend thereof. In body panels comprising both a first and a second resin, the first resin may be coextruded with LDPE or LLDPE as a thin layer of the body panel or the first resin may be blended with the LDPE and/or LLDPE.
