摘要： A system and method for implementing local base stations is provided. The system includes a plurality of mobile devices (20), a local area network (LAN) (14) , and a plurality of local base stations (44,46) coupled to the LAN. Each local base station in the system has a unique address on the LAN, and is configured to transmit and receive data packets to and from the mobile devices. Using the unique address assigned to a particular local base station, the data packets may be transferred between local base stations over the LAN. Each local base station in the system may include a central processing unit (CPU) coupled to a sound card and a network interface card, and a transmitting and receiving means that sends and receives modulated RF signals to and from the mobile devices. The sound card is configured to demodulate an incoming RF signal to produce an incoming frame of data, and to generate an outgoing modulated RF signal from an outgoing frame of data. Each local base station may also include a software module executed by the CPU and configured to extract a packet of data from the incoming RF signal and encode the packet of data into an outgoing datagram that includes addressing information enabling the outgoing datagram to be directed to another local base station over the LAN, and also configured to extract a data packet from an incoming datagram received from the LAN and encode the data packet into the outgoing frame of data tha includes information enabling the outgoing frame of data to be transmitted to the mobile device.

摘要： A system and method for pushing information from a host system to a mobile data communication device upon sensing a triggering event is disclosed. A redirector program operating at the host system enables a user to continuously redirect user-selected data items from the host system to the user's mobile data communication device upon detecting that one or more user-defined triggering events has occurred. The redirector program operates in connection with event generating applications and repackaging systems at the host system to configure and detect particular user-defined events, and then to repackage the user-selected data items in an electronic wrapper prior to pushing the data items to the mobile device. The system includes information processing components for identifying one or more information processors in the vicinity of the mobile device and then routing an attachment or information from the host system, the device or an external information source to a selected information processor.

摘要： One illustrative method of reducing undeliverable server-initiated IP traffic within a wireless network (21) includes the steps of identifying that a data connection (e.g. a Packet Data Protocol or PDP Context) for communicating server-initiated EP messages from a host server (22 or 26) to a mobile station (10) has been lost or terminated; causing a notification message having a destination address corresponding to the host server (22 or 26) to be produced based on identifying that the data connection has been lost or terminated; and causing the notification message to be sent to the host server (22 or 26). The notification message may cause the host server (22 or 26) to at least temporarily refrain from communicating and/or to queue server-initiated IP messages (10) intended for the mobile station (10). The notification message may be formatted and communicated based on an existing protocol, such as Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP), or any other suitable protocol.

摘要： Methods and apparatus for providing a seamless switching of voice calls between different wireless networks are disclosed. In one illustrative example, a mobile communication device has a processor and one or more wireless transceivers coupled to the processor. The one or more wireless transceivers include a first transceiver portion operative in accordance with a first wireless network (e.g. a GSM/GPRS cellular network) and a second transceiver portion operative in accordance with a second wireless network (e.g. an 802.11 wireless network). A voice call is maintained between the mobile device and a communication terminal through call control equipment. The processor of the mobile device is operative to maintain voice communications for the voice call over a traffic channel established between the mobile device and the first wireless network using the first transceiver portion ; cause a connecting call to be established with the communication terminal through the call control equipment in response to a predetermined condition, where the connecting call involves a traffic channel established between the second wireless network and the mobile device using the second transceiver portion ; and after the connecting call is established, maintain voice communications for the voice call over the traffic channel established between the second wireless network and the mobile device.
