    • Anhydrous hydrogen fluoride (44) of low P uO u content is recovered from metallic fluoride salts containing phosphate values by digesting the metallic salts (10) in sulfuric acid (14) at zone (16). Sufficient water and/or steam (12) is introduced into the zone to minimize the evolution of volatile fluophosphates encountered under conventional low humidity reactions. The dilute HF gas evolved (18) is rectified in two or more rectification zones (1, 2, 3) in series, where in at least one rectification zone, the rectification occurs in the presence of sulfuric acid (36). The product HF to P uO u weight ratio is greater than 10,000: 1.
