    • An economical reluctance drive/generator system including a double AC-fed reluctance motor (2) having two three-phase stator windings (p1 and p2) and a rotor (20) with simple salient poles. The speed of the motor (2) may be varied by alternating the frequency of the excitation voltage applied to one set of the stator windings while keeping the frequency of the excitation voltage applied to the other set of windings constant. The system also includes a frequency converter (30) for altering the frequency of the excitation voltage applied to one set of the stator windings. The system is accomplished with a set of structural constraints, and these insure the proper electromagnetic coupling between the two sets of stator windings and therefore insure the torque production and economical energy conversion in the system. The VA rating of the frequency converter (30) for this system can be reduced if the speed range is small and the rotor copper loss is eliminated in this motor or generator (2).

    • An electrolysis system (1) for altering the storage capacity of a metal cathode for hydrogen isotopes has a direct current source (11) coupled between an anode (9) and a cathode (7), with both electrodes (9, 7) at least partially immersed in an electrolyte (5). The current source (11) drives electric current through the electrolyte (5) from the anode (9) to the cathode (7). The electrolyte (5) is typically a solution of lithium deuteroxide and boric acid in heavy water. The metal cathode (7) is typically comprised primarily of palladium. The current flow through the cell (12, 67) causes the palladium to become loaded with boron and deuterium, which substantially increases the efficiency of excess heat production and lowers the current threshold for excess heat generation. In an alternative version, the surface of the cathode (7) is fabricated from an alloy of boron in palladium.

    • An improved core-form transformer (20) is disclosed. The core-form transformer (20) includes a c-wrapped ribbon conductor (32) with opposing wide sides and opposing thin sides. The c-wrapped ribbon conductor (32) is wound around a core (24) to form a plurality of coil sections (22). Adhesive is applied directly to one of the wide sides of the ribbon conductor (32) to form a strong mechanical coupling within the coil sections (22). A novel transposing fold (50, 52, 30, 44) of the ribbon conductor (32) is employed to create coil transpositions. The core-form transformer (20) of the invention reduces circulating current losses while utilizing only a small number of transposing folds, generally adjacent to a first coil section, a last coil section, and an intermediate coil section.
