    • A machine (10) includes a plurality of torque consuming devices (46) drivingly coupled with an internal combustion engine (20). The plurality of torque consuming devices (46) includes a continuously variable transmission (14) coupling the internal combustion engine (20) with a plurality of ground engaging elements (16). An electronic controller (52) is in communication with the internal combustion engine (20) and the plurality of torque consuming devices (46) and is configured to execute a torque load control algorithm for generating a torque load limit (58, 59) based, at least in part, on an engine underspeed value (57, 62, 114, 124, 134, 144, 154, 164). The electronic controller (52) identifies a potential engine stall event during which a current engine speed (55, 60) of the internal combustion engine (20) drops below the engine underspeed value (57, 62, 114, 124, 134, 144, 154, 164) by a predetermined amount, and executes a transient torque load control algorithm to adjust the torque load limit (58, 59, 63, 64) responsive to the identification of the potential engine stall event.

    • A method is provided for controlling a gear ratio rate of change in a machine (10) having a continuously variable transmission (14).     • A method of controlling a transmission (11) associated with a machine includes determining a first target torque of the transmission (11). The first target torque includes a combination of a torque limit associated with a power source (17) of the machine and a virtual retarding torque. The method also includes directing the transmission (11) to generate a first output corresponding to the first target torque at an interface between the transmission (11) and the power source (17). The first output of the transmission (11) increases a speed of the power source (17) from a first power source speed to a second power source speed and decreases a travel speed of the machine from a first travel speed to a second travel speed. The method further includes determining that the first target torque is not equal to the torque limit, and determining a second target torque of the transmission (11) in response to determining that the first target torque is not equal to the torque limit. The second target torque is less than the first target torque.

    • A method is provided for controlling a gear ratio change in a hydrostatic drive machine (10). The hydrostatic drive machine (10) includes a variable displacement pump (18) and at least one variable displacement motor (22) fluidly connected with the variable displacement pump (18).
