摘要： In one aspect, the present invention is a system for preparing a patient for an endoscopy procedure, such as a colonoscopy. The endoscopic preparation and examination system includes an endoscope, a source of irrigation and aspiration, and a control unit. The endoscope includes an elongated flexible shaft with a distal tip and a proximal end, at least one aspiration lumen and at least one irrigation lumen. A plurality of irrigation ports are functionally connected to the at least one irrigation lumen and a plurality of aspiration ports are functionally connected to the at least one aspiration lumen. In another aspect, the invention provides a method of clearing an obstructed view in a patient prior to, or during an endoscopic examination.

摘要： A method for percutaneously implanting a medical catheter, such as a gastrostomy feeding tube, and a medical catheter implanting assembly. In one embodiment, the implanting assembly includes a gastrostomy feeding tube, an inner sheath and an outer sheath. The feeding tube has an internal bolster integrally formed at its distal end. The inner sheath includes a bore extending distally from its proximal end to a point prior to its distal end and a transverse window communicating with the bore. The outer sheath includes a proximal end, a distal end and a longitudinal bore. The outer sheath is inserted over the inner sheath, and the feeding tube is inserted into the inner sheath, with the internal bolster being folded and tucked into the window and retained therein by the outer sheath. Movement of the outer sheath relative to the inner sheath to expose the window allows the bolster to decompress.

摘要： A medical device assembly including a protective sheath. According to one embodiment, the assembly includes a pull-type catheter implanting subassembly and a protective sheath subassembly. The catheter implanting subassembly includes a gastrostomy feeding tube having a trailing end and a leading end. An internal bolster is disposed at the trailing end of the tube, and a fitting, which has a front end that serves as a dilator, is disposed at the leading end of the tube. A wire loop, which may be tied to a suture, is fixed to the front end of the fitting. The protective sheath subassembly includes a protective sheath and a retaining member. The sheath is an elongated member having an open proximal end, a generally conical distal end and a longitudinal lumen. The sheath is dimensioned to receive substantially all of the catheter implanting subassembly, except for the wire loop, which extends through an aperture in the distal end of the sheath. One or more weakened areas are provided on the distal end of the sheath and are designed to tear apart when the internal bolster is pulled through the distal end. The retaining member is fixed to the outside of the sheath and is dimensioned to act as a stop to limit insertion of the sheath into a patient.

摘要： A medical catheter assembly (11) including a safety Y-port adaptor (17). In one embodiment, the medical catheter assembly (11) is a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) assembly (11) and includes a PEG tube (13), the PEG tube (13) having a proximal end (27), a distal end (25) and a longitudinal conduit. An internal bolster (14) is disposed at the distal end (25) of the PEG tube (13). The safety Y-port adaptor (17) includes a tubular first arm (41), a tubular second arm (43) and a tubular third arm (45), each of the second and third arms (43, 45) being in fluid communication with the first arm (41). The first arm (41) is coupled to the proximal end (27) of the PEG tube (13) and is fluid communication therewith. A first anti-reflux valve (65) is disposed within the second arm (43), and a second anti-reflux valve (67) is disposed within the third arm (45). The anti-reflux valves (65, 67) may be positioned within their respective arms (43, 45) so that each may be biased open by the insertion of a dispensing tip into the arm (43, 45).
