The method includes inputting a CDMA signal received through the radio channel to a searcher (200) and processing the received signal in the searcher to obtain a multi-path profile of the radio channel. Processing includes at least partially removing an effect of at least one of a transmit and a receive filter on the multi-path profile. In one embodiment at least partially removing the effect of at least one of the transmit and receive filter on the multi-path profile involves passing the received CDMA signal through an N-tap Finite Impulse Response filter (206A) having a filter characteristic that approximates an inverted amplitude response of the at least one of the transmit and a receive filter, while in another embodiment software external to the searcher is used to process the searcher output data.

    • A system, method and computer program product are provided for demodulating Quadrature Amplitude Modulated (QAM) signals based upon a speed of a receiver. The system includes a receiver and a demapping element. The receiver is capable of receiving a QAM signal over at least one slot. The demapping element can then be capable of estimating the amplitude of a signal constellation of the QAM signal over either one or more of the slot(s) or fractions of the slot(s) based upon the speed of the receiver. More particularly, the demapping element can estimate the amplitude by first estimating an expectation of a power of a signal combination of a traffic symbol and a pilot symbol, where the expectation can be estimated over either one or more of the slot(s) or fractions of the slot(s). The demapping element can also estimate a bias, and thereafter estimate the amplitude based upon the expectation of the power of the signal combination and the bias.

    • The present invention relates to systems and methods that facilitate compensating for intersymbol interference (e.g. due to non-nyquist filtering) in Code Division Multiple Access systems (e.g., IS 95 and IS2000 systems). The subject invention employs equalization filters (e.g., T-spaced equalizers) at fingers of a RAKE receiver. By effecting such equalization filtering at a downstream point in a receiving system, e.g., at fingers of the RAKE receiver, the filters can be run so as to operate at lower rates as compared to convention systems where filtering is effected upstream where time is not necessarily known thus requiring equalization filters to operate at significantly faster rates (e.g., 2x or 4x expected chip rate). Accordingly, as compared to conventional systems where the matching filters often are of substantial complexity (e.g., > 80 taps) the present invention provides less complex equalization filters thereby reducing overall system complexity and cost.
