摘要： A method and apparatus for managing radio resources in one or more wireless communication networks. At least one radio resource manager (RRM) (106) is provided within a network node, or as an independent entity. The RRM (106) monitors performance on wireless communication links of the network(s) and interacts with nodes (102-1-102-n) associated with those links to change the configuration on a particular wireless communication link if its performance (i.e., quality) falls below an established threshold. Information regarding current resource usage of the network is sent to the RRM (106) by the nodes (102-1-102n). Each of the nodes (102-1102-n) may send a quality report to the RRM (106) including wireless communication link quality measurements and performance statistics.

At least one of the wireless access systems (12) is capable of communicating with multiple types of mobile stations. One type of mobile station communicates according to the Enhanced General Packet Radio Service (EGPRS) protocol, while another type of mobile station communicates according to the GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network (GERAN) protocol. The wireless access system (12) includes control logic to select one of plural types of protocol stacks to use for communications over an air link with the different types of mobile stations. In response to an indicator of a first type, the wireless access system (12) selects a first protocol stack, and in response to an indicator of a second type, the wireless access system (12) selects a second protocol stack.

摘要： A method and an apparatus for a proxy mobile Internet protocol (PMIP) supporting a dedicated multicast local mobility anchor (LMA) and mobile access gateway (MAG) is provided. The LMA assigns an Internet Protocol (IP) address to a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) that processes the IP address and sends a router solicitation message to a serving MAG. A WTRU is disclosed to receive a first IP address that is for unicast service and a second IP address that is for multicast services. Generally, the method and apparatus proposes architecture, interfaces, and procedures to enable multicast mobility using Proxy Mobile IP. More specifically operations of aggregated PMIP tunnels for multicast services are described. Multicast mobility is enabled when mobile nodes move from one MAG to another MAG, intra-LMA, and inter-LMA. And, Multicast mobility is enabled between bidirectional network and downlink only multicast network in a hybrid network.

An Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) client registers with an IMS network and establishes an MIH session with an MIH application server using an SIP. The IMS client establishes a session for IP-based service, (e.g., VoIP), with a communication peer using SIP messaging. MIH messages are exchanged for handover with the MIH application server over IP using SIP messages by encapsulating the MIH messages in SIP instant messages. Alternatively, the MIH messages may be exchanged with the MIH application over IP by sending equivalent SIP messages in place of the MIH messages.

摘要： A method and apparatus for performing a handover are disclosed. An Internet protocol (IP) multimedia subsystem (IMS) client registers with an IMS network and establishes a media independent handover (MIH) session with an MIH application server using a session initiation protocol (SIP). The IMS client establishes a session for IP-based service, (e.g., voice over IP (VoIP)), with a communication peer using an SIP. MIH messages are exchanged for handover with the MIH application server over IP. After handover, the session is resumed. A serving call session control function (S-CSCF) triggers the MIH application server based on a string "MIH services" and a unique identifier included in an INVITE request. The IMS client may send a REFER request to the MIH application server after the handover to resume the session. Alternatively, the IMS client may send a RE-INVITE request to the MIH application server and the communication peer.

摘要： A method for battery conservation in a wireless communication system begins with requesting a battery level measurement from a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) (102) by a radio network controller (RNC) (104). The battery level is measured at the WTRU (102) and is reported to the RNC (104). The battery level measurement is stored in the RNC (104), where it can be accessed by radio resource management (RRM) (100) procedures. The battery level measurement is applied to the RRM (100) procedures by making adjustments to the procedures based on the battery level measurement, whereby the battery of the WTRU (102) is conserved.

The system includes at least one access point (AP) and at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). When the AP decides to adapt the transmit power level of the WTRU, the AP transmits a TPC request frame to the WTRU. In response to receiving the TPC request frame, the WTRU performs one or more physical measurements and sends a TPC report frame back to the AP.
