    • Provided is a distributor (10) of a flowable medium for a heat exchanger having a housing member and at least one substantially vertically oriented tube member(100) arranged in the housing member. The distributor has a hollow body (12, 14, 16) arranged to be supported in one end of the tube member. An upturned funnel shaped core member (22) is formed in the hollow body, resulting in an annular flow passage (26) between the body and the core member. The body has an upper section (12) with an inlet (18), a lower section(14) with an outlet (20), and a mid section (16) between the upper and lower sections. The flow passage extends from the inlet to the outlet at the lower section, and is configured to narrow progressively from the inlet towards the mid section, and widen progressively from the mid section towards the outlet for modifying one or more flow characteristics of a flowable medium flowing through the passage. The flow characteristics include a flow velocity and a flow direction of the flowable medium. Intake guide elements (28) are provided at the upper section for guiding the flowable medium to flow in streams from said inlet towards the mid section. Ejection guide elements (30) are provided at the outlet for guiding the flowable medium at said outlet to eject in a direction towards an inner wall surface (104) of the tube member.

    • Provided is a water distillation system (10) for distilling sea or brackish water. The system has a feed water arrangement (14 and 37) for supplying feed water from a feed water source (FEED) to one or more flashing stages (28). Each flashing stage has a water flash evaporator (29) for vaporising at least a part of the feed water therein, and a condenser (35) for receiving the vapour and to convert at least a part of the vapour into distilled water. A heat storage arrangement (20) provided with a heat generating source for storing heat energy is used to heat a fluid medium flowing through it. A heat exchange arrangement (24) receives the hot fluid medium and transfer heat to a stream of vapour flowing under pressure from each flashing stage. The vapour leaving the heat exchange arrangement being at a raised temperature is arranged to be condensed into water at the condenser and to transfer some of its latent heat to the evaporator.
