    • An applicator for applying a substance in liquid, paste or gel form comprises a container (2), of which a portion is flexible and which includes an applicator portion, which is arcuate in cross-section and in which one or more first apertures (14) is formed. An elastic valve membrane (18) is connected to and overlies the applicator portion and one or more second apertures (22) are formed in it. The first apertures (14) are offset from the second apertures (22). The valve membrane (18) normally engages the applicator portion and the first apertures (14) are thus normally closed by the valve membrane (18) but the application of pressure to the flexible portion of the container produces an increase of the pressure of the container which results in the valve membrane (18) being forced away from the applicator portion against its elasticity. The second apertures (22) are slits, which are closed when the valve membrane (18) is in engagement with the applicator portion but which are open when the valve membrane (18) is forced away from the applicator portion.

The interior space accommodates a movable piston member (8), which divides the interior space into a gas space (46) and an ingredient space (44) below it. The outer edge of the piston member (8) forms a sliding seal with the inner surface of the depending wall (22) and a hole is formed in the piston member in which the spigot (20) is slidingly and sealingly received. A gas supply pathway (34) communicates with the gas space (46) and is constructed to permit gas to flow from the exterior of the depending wall (22) into the gas space but substantially to prevent flow in the opposite direction.

    • An insert for a multiple component container includes a reservoir with an opening defined by a peripheral edge which, in use, is connected to a sealing element (20). In use, the reservoir and the sealing element define a substantially sealed space. The reservoir includes a stationary portion (2) and a movable portion (4), which is connected to the stationary portion and is movable with respect thereto by the action of gas pressure within the reservoir. A discharge opening (6) is formed in the movable portion (4) and a gas leakage path is provided in the reservoir wall. A valve member (14) is connected to the stationary portion (2) and cooperates with the discharge opening (6) and substantially seals it. The application of a greater gas pressure to the interior of the reservoir than to its exterior results in movement of the movable portion (4) away from the stationary portion (2) and thus in the valve member (14) moving out of sealing contact with the discharge opening (6).

    • A liquid dispenser of resealable type includes an outer tube (22) with a discharge opening (28) formed in it and an inner tube (20), which is partially accommodated within the outer tube (22) and defines with it an annular space. The outer tube is connected in a sealed manner to a one-piece connection member (2), which defines an inlet space, for connection to a liquid container. One end of the inner tube (20) is closed and the outer tube (22) is integrally connected to the inner tube (20) by a flexible integral web (24), whose width in the radial direction is greater than that of the annular space. A liquid flow opening (30) is formed in the wall of the inner tube (20) and the inner tube (20) is movable longitudinally within the outer tube (22) between an open position, in which the inlet space communicates with the discharge opening (28), and a closed position, in which the inlet space does not communicate with the discharge opening (28). The connection member (2) includes an integral tubular portion (10), of which one end is closed and the other end communicates with the inlet space. A liquid flow opening (12) is formed in the tubular portion (10) and the outer surface of the tubular portion (10) is in sliding sealed contact with the inner surface of the inner tube (20), whereby the two flow openings (12, 30) are at least partially in registry in the open position and are out of registry in the closed position.

    • A container for dispensing a two-component liquid comprises an outer resilient container (2) for containing one component with a neck (4) defining an opening and an inner tubular container (16). The inner container (16) contains a piston (20, 22) slidably received within it. A closure member (18) extends over the entire area of the inner container and closes its lower end (16). The piston and the inner container define a reservoir for containing a second component. The neck (4) carries a closure cap (10,12) which affords a liquid dispensing opening (38). A first non-return valve (24, 32) communicates with the liquid dispensing opening (38) and with the interior of the inner container (16). An airflow path extends through the closure cap (10, 12) and the piston (20, 22) and includes a second non-return valve. The first non- return valve is arranged to permit liquid to flow from the inner container to the liquid dispensing opening and the second non-return valve is arranged to permit air to flow through the airflow path into the inner container. The closure cap (10, 12) cooperates with the piston (20, 22) so that movement of the closure cap in the downward direction results in movement of the piston towards the closure member. A finger (13) connected to the piston contacts the closure member (18) and moves it and thus opens the inner container, thereby permitting the component within it to fall down into the component within the outer container.

    • A dispensing cap for a beverage container constitutes a one-piece moulding of plastic material including a first circular section tubular portion (2) with first radius for connection to the mouth of the container and a second circular section tubular portion (6) with a second smaller radius. One end of the first tubular portion is connected to one end of the second tubular portion by a resilient annular integral web (4), in which one or more flow openings (18) are formed. The width of the web is equal to or greater than the difference between the first and second radius. The other end of the second tubular portion (6) is closed. One of the web (4) and the internal surface of the first tubular portion adjacent the said one end thereof is connected to a projecting annular first sealing flange (20). The first and second tubular portions (2, 6) are co-axial and relatively movable in the axial direction between an open position, in which the second tubular portion (6) is located outside the first tubular portion (2) and the flow openings are unobstructed, and a closed position, in which the said one end of the second tubular portion is located within the said one end of the first tubular portion and the sealing flange (20) is in sealing engagement with the other of the web (4) and the internal surface the first tubular portion (2), whereby the flow openings (18) are prevented from communicating with the interior of the first tubular portion by the sealing engagement of the first sealing flange (20) with the other of the web (4) and the internal surface of the first tubular portion (2). The said other end of the said second tubular portion (6) carries a radially projecting circumferential flange (16). One or more flow opening (17) are formed in the circumferential flange. The moulding further includes two half shells (42) of semi-cylindrical shape, the upper edge of each of which is integral with and sealed to the circumferential flange (16) and the lower edge of which forms a sliding seal with a first tubular portion (2). Each side edge of each half shell forms a seal with a side edge of the other half shell, whereby defined within the two half shells (42) there is a liquid flow space with which the flow openings (18, 17) in the web (4) and in the circumferential flange communicate.

    • A dispensing cap constituting a one-piece moulding of polymeric material includes a first circular section tubular portion (2) with a first radius for connection to the mouth of the beverage container and a second circular section tubular portion (6) with a second radius smaller than the first radius.     • A dispensing valve for flowable material comprises a valve plate (26) of resilient polymeric material in which at least one elongate discontinuity is formed. The discontinuity defines at least one valve flap (28) which is an integral part of the valve plate but whose margin defined by the discontinuity is not connected to the adjacent material of the valve plate.
