摘要： Joint reduction simulation training devices include a proximal bone component, and a distal bone component adjacently positioned relative to the proximal bone component. The proximal bone component is provided with a dislocation guide operatively cooperating with an opposed terminal end of the distal simulated bone component to provide a simulated joint between the proximal and distal bone components. The dislocation guide includes a dislocation and reduction sockets establishing dislocated and reduction positions of the distal simulated bone component relative to the proximal bone component when the terminal end of the distal simulated bone component is physically positioned within either the dislocation socket or the reduction socket. A transition surface joins the dislocation and reduction sockets such that the terminal end of the distal simulated bone component is in traversing engagement with the transition surface when the terminal end of the distal simulated bone component is moved from the dislocation socket and into the reduction socket during a reduction training exercise.

摘要： Systems and methods for determining the shape and/or position of an object are described. A fiber optic shape sensor (FOSS) may be used in combination with one or more inertial measurement units (IMUs) to mutually cross-correct for errors in the sensors' measurements of position and/or orientation. The IMU(s) may be attached to the FOSS's optical fiber, such that each IMU measures the orientation of a corresponding portion of the optical fiber. The position and shape of the optical fiber can then be determined based on the measurements obtained from the IMU(s) and the measurements obtained from the FOSS. For example, the FOSS measurements and the IMU measurements can be provided to a state estimation unit (e.g., a Kalman filter), which can estimate the position and/or shape of the optical fiber based on those measurements. In some embodiments, the estimates of position are used for navigation of tethered mobile devices.

The conformal planar layer conforms to a surface shape to which the conformal planar layer is placed adjacent. Each area has a periphery that extends along a grid. The first and second areas are configured so that the antenna can communicate electromagnetic energy wirelessly in a specific direction to the planar layer when an electrical connection is made to at least one of the first areas. The conformal planar layer has a thickness in the range of 0.001" to 0.01". The antenna has substantially omnidirectional coverage and sufficient gain over a frequency range to receive television (TV) signals inside a home, office, or other building.

摘要： An optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) measurement is produced from an OFDR apparatus that includes a tunable laser source coupled to a sensing interferometer and a monitor interferometer. The sensing interferometer is also coupled to a waveguide, e.g., an optical sensing fiber. Sensor interferometric data obtained by the OFDR measurement is processed in the spectral domain (e.g., frequency) with one or more parameters to compensate for the optical dispersion associated with the sensing interferometer data. A Fourier Transform of the dispersion-compensated sensing interferometric data in the spectral domain is performed to provide a dispersion-compensated OFDR measurement information in the temporal (e.g., time) domain.

摘要： A method and structure for terminating an optical fiber are disclosed that provide an optical fiber termination structure with a small volume and very low return loss, even when the termination is in close proximity to reflective surfaces. In one example embodiment, the optical fiber termination reduces reflections into the one or more cores to a return loss of -70 dB or less regardless of the presence of surfaces proximate the optical fiber termination. At the same time, a length of the optical fiber termination is less than 5 mm and a largest transverse dimension of the optical fiber termination is less than 325 um. The optical fiber termination is useful in fiber sensing applications in general and is particularly effective for terminating a multi-core fiber used in a distributed shape sensing application.
