    • The invention relates to a method for processing bulk material and for removing impurities using a gaseous medium which passes through the bulk material vertically, from bottom to top. Said gaseous medium is produced at least partly by the evaporation of water contained in said bulk material. At least part of the impurities are expelled by means of adsorption by the water vapour passing through said bulk material. After passing through said bulk material a first time, at least part of the gaseous medium is conducted through the bulk material once more. During a first processing phase, the bulk material is heated to a temperature ranging from 90 DEG C to 130 DEG C. This temperature is maintained during an expulsion phase. Said expulsion phase is followed by a tempering phase during which a temperature in excess of 200 DEG C is reached in the area of the bulk material. Said expulsion phase accounts for at least 40 % of the overall duration of the processing operation.
