    • An ophthalmic is injection molded and/or, compression molded to provide a single use lens. An exemplary ophthalmic lens may comprise: a grip portion, an eye contacting portion and a main body portion disposed between the grip portion and the eye contacting portion wherein the grip portion, the eye contacting portion and the main body portion are integrally formed of an polymethylmethacrylate having a specific gravity of 1.1-1.8, the eye contacting portion is shaped to contact the cornea of the eye, and the main body portion has a curved sidewall with an arc extending in a direction from the grip portion towards the eye contacting portion, the arc having a length that is at least 1.15 times the length of a chord of the arc and the main body having at least one mirror surface for reflecting light to and from the eye contacting portion.

    • A portable scanning laser ophthalmoscope with a wide field of view of the interior of the patient's eye without the use of an external monitor or display. The portable scanning laser ophthalmoscope (10) includes a housing (12) that is sufficiently small to be carried and held by a clinician. The housing contains a source of laser light that is scanned by a scanning system (24) for generating a two-dimensional area of illumination. The housing also includes a battery for providing power to the scanning system. An optical system contained in the housing directs illumination from the scanning system to the patient's eye to illuminate the fundus and also intercepts light reflected by the patient's eye to generate a magnified image of the interior of the patient's eye. The optical system includes an eyepiece lens through which a clinician looks to directly view the magnified image of the interior of the patient's eye.

    • A lens (1) allows a wide field of view of the interior of a patient's eye (2) to be observed without requiring the eye (2) to be dilated. The lens (2) is nonsymmetrical and formed on an optically transparent material having two nonspherical surfaces (3, 4). The surface (3) of the lens (1) facing the patient's eye (2) has a curvature sufficient to bend the image forming rays (8, 10) emanating from the undilated eye (2) towards a second surface (4) which has a curvature sufficient to form the rays (8, 10) into a planar, real, inverted image (7) of the fundus (6) with a field of view of greater than 60 DEG and a ratio of the effective focal length of the lens (1) to the lens (1) diameter that is less than 0.5.
