    • An improved method and apparatus for dropping a ball, plug or dart during oil and gas well operations (e.g., cementing operations) employs a specially configured tool body assembly having valving members (e.g., safety or kelly values) and valving members holding plugs, balls, or darts to be dropped. In one embodiment, the ball(s), dart(s) or plug(s) are contained in a sliding sleeve that shifts position responsive to valve rotation. An optional indicator indicates to a user or operator that a ball or plug has passed a selected one of the valving members. A transmitter (or transceiver) provides an ability to generate a wireless signal that is received by receivers (or transceivers) on the tool body assembly. Each receiver (or transceiver) controls an electrical actuator that engages a valving member or the indicator. Wireless signals can be used to open or close a valve or to reset a "tripped" indicator.

    • A method of deactiving an underwater hydraulic device provides a hydraulic device that is capable of being operated under water, the device having a hydraulic cylinder with a pushrod and a piston. The device is lowered below a water surface with a hose reel that is located at the water surface area such as on a marine vessel. The hose reel includes first and second hydraulic hoses that connect to the cylinder on opposing sides of the piston. Fluid flow in the first and second hydraulic hoses is continuously monitored. The ratio of the volume of fluid flowing into the cylinder from one side of the piston to the volume of fluid flowing into the cylinder from the other side of the cylinder is continuously calculated with a computer or controller. The hydraulic device is deactivated if the ratio varies from a preset value. One embodiment includes a plurality of flow meters for measuring fluid flow to and from one or more hydraulicly powered apparatuses. In one embodiment outputs of the flow meters are analyzed to determine if the hydraulic system has a leak, and if a leak is detected, a warning is issued and/or one or more of the connected hydraulically powered apparatuses are shut down, and/or the hydraulic power supply is shut down.

    • A hydraulic clamshell bucket apparatus employs a frame that includes an upper lifting member that enables the frame to be lifted with a crane or other lifting device. First and second hydraulically powered jaws are each attached to the frame. Jaw pivots are provided on the frame, each jaw pivotally attached to the frame at a jaw pivot. First and second hydraulic cylinders are each connected to the frame. Each cylinder pivots on the frame above the jaw pivots, each cylinder connected to the frame at an upper cylinder pivot. Lower cylinder pivots are provided on the jaws, each cylinder pivotally attached to a jaw at a lower cylinder pivot. Each jaw has a concave surface. First and second digging implements are attached to the jaws, the first digging implement attached to the first jaw, the second digging implement attached to the second jaw. Each digging implement has a concave portion. Each digging implement is wider than the jaw to which it is attached so that each implement extends laterally away from the jaw to which it is attached.
