    • An electromagnetic clutch includes a rotatable input member and a rotatable output member. A clutch plate is fixed for rotation with one of the input member and the output member. An armature plate is axially moveable relative to the other of the input member and the output member. A self-energizing actuator converts rotary motion of the input member to linear movement of the armature plate. The actuator includes a biasing member urging relative rotation between the one of the input member and the output member and the armature plate to initially engage the armature plate and the clutch plate. The self-energizing actuator provides an additional clutch engagement force once the input member is driven and also includes an electromagnet to axially translate the armature plate and disengage the armature plate and the clutch plate.

    • A valve (10) for selectively diverting flow from a source to another path for use in vehicles. The valve includes a valve plunger (20) axially movable in a housing (12) between a closed position in which an annulus (28) of the valve plunger blocks the inner diameter of an inlet pipe (14) and serves as a hydrodynamic surface to move the fluid entering the inlet pipe smoothly over the valve elements, including a control chamber (40) that contacts with a fixed base of the valve member. The control chamber is connected by an inlet orifice (32) to the inlet pressure and to an external control orifice (52) connection having a low-pressure side such that the control pressure in the control chamber is variable between 100% and 0% of the inlet pressure.

    • An oil pressure relief valve for use in the oil pump lubrication system of an internal combustion engine is controlled by both oil pump outlet pressure and by pilot pressure from a pilot valve which is selectively applied by a control member, preferably a two-way valve that is operated by the engine control module. The pilot valve selectively supplies one of the oil pump outlet pressure or the engine gallery pressure to the control member which selectively supplies pilot valve pressure to the oil pump pressure relief valve which has a single piston. The pilot valve includes first and second pistons for selectively controlling back pressure from the pressure relief valve and for managing changes in oil pressure due to changes in the engine gallery to maintain a virtually constant pressure even as oil pump speed increases when the control member connects the pilot valve to the pressure relief valve resulting in a fuel economy benefit and improved control of the oil pump pressure.
