A tab applicator (20) is disposed downstream of the monitoring station for applying an adhesive tab (34) to the web in a timed relationship to the advancement of the web so as to adhere the tab (34) to the required location on the web. The tab applicator includes an online printer receiving a signal from the signal generator, whereby an applied tab may carry appropriate indicia for the location being marked.

摘要： Apparatus arranged to insert a tab between two sheets of a stack of paper, to serve as a marker, has a driven roller (24) and a pinch roller (26) with the tape (12) extending therebetween. The pinch roller (26) is mounted on a rocker arm (25) having at its other end a stud (27), the arm (25) being spring urged to engage the stud (27) with the tape. When the tape is to be fed, the rocker arm is pivoted to release the brake effect of the stud (27) and engage the pinch roller (26) with the drive roller (24). The arm is mounted on a housing (14) which may be pivoted away from the tape path to facilitate tape loading or the clearing of a jam. A rotary cutter assembly (34) is mounted downstream of the drive roller (24), the cutter assembly having a bar (35) mounted for rotation within a sleeve (37), the bar having a transverse slot (36) through which the tape passes. The downstream edge of the slot (36) co-operates with an edge of the sleeve (37) to provide a shearing action on rotation of the sleeve.

摘要： Apparatus for counting sheets in stack (17) thereof and inserting tabs (27) between the sheets at predetermined counts, as well as a tabbing method, uses a rotatable counting disc (10) engageable with an edge region of the stack and including a sheet transfer slot (12) to transfer the next sheet to be counted from one face of the disc to the opposed face, upon rotation of the disc. There are means (30) to count the number of sheets transferred and also to advance the disc relative to the stack, as the counting progresses. A tabber (31) is arranged to insert a tab (27) between two sheets of the stack (17) when a predetermined sheet count has been achieved, which tabber (31) projects a tab in a generally radially outward direction with respect to the disc (10), immediately adjacent one face (13) of the disc and in a timed relationship to the rotation thereof. The disc includes a tabbing recess (20) in its one face (13) and into which a projected tab is received for insertion between the last and next sheets to be counted, at the moment of projection of the tab.
