    • A novel microorganism capable of producing organic acids, Mannheimia sp. 55E, and a process for producing organic acid through anaerobic and aerobic incubation using the novel microorganism are provided. The method of producing an organic acid using the microorganism involves incubating Mannheimia sp. 55E with Accession Number KCTC 0769BP in a medium under anaerobic or aerobic conditions and obtaining an organic acid from the medium. Mannheimia sp. 55E produces succinic acid, lactic acid, and formic acid under anaerobic conditions saturated with CO2, and succinic acid, lactic acid, acetic acid, and formic acid under aerobic or N2 anaerobic conditions. Mannheimia sp. 55E is a facultative anaerobe tolerant of oxygen. Thus, the use of Mannheimia sp. 55E in producing organic acids can eliminate a problem of process instability, which would occur by the presence of oxygen in a fermentation process of producing organic acids using an obligate anaerobic microorganism.

    • The present invention relates to a method for the on-site treatment of food wastes from group residential facilities, such as apartment buildings and tenement houses, group kitchen facilities, such as restaurants, and homes, in which the food wastes are ground by a disposer in a generation site, such as a kitchen, and then transferred using kitchen water. Before or after such a transfer, the food wastes are separated from kitchen water and treated on-site. The food waste treatment method of the present invention is significantly different from the commonly used method in which the food wastes are collected from the generation site, and then incinerated, buried in a landfill, or recycled as feedstuff or compost. The inventive method is a treatment system considering more convenient and sanitary aspects than any method in both inside and outside of Korea by allowing the food wastes to be treated in a small space within the generation site, thereby providing a method of fundamentally solving the problem of food wastes generated in large cities.
